Expeditor

Position Overview

The Expeditor plays a key role in ensuring smooth communication and coordination between the kitchen and Front of House (FOH) teams at Jean’s. This position is responsible for managing the flow of food from the kitchen to the dining room, ensuring every dish is accurate, properly presented, and delivered to guests efficiently.

The ideal Expeditor is organized, attentive, calm under pressure, and an excellent communicator who can maintain control of the pass during busy service.

• Work closely with FOH staff and kitchen staff to expedite food and ensure service moves smoothly and efficiently.
• Organize and manage incoming tickets to maintain proper pacing and order flow throughout service.
• Ensure all tickets are called out clearly, accurately, and at the appropriate time.
• Communicate with chefs, cooks, servers, runners, and managers regarding ticket timing, modifications, delays, and other service needs.
• Check every plate before it leaves the kitchen for accuracy, presentation, proper garnishes, and completeness.
• Confirm that all dishes at a table are coordinated and ready to be delivered whenever possible.
• Pay close attention to allergies, dietary restrictions, and special modifications, ensuring they are clearly communicated and handled appropriately.
• Verify that dishes match the specifications and modifications listed on each ticket.
• Maintain awareness of table numbers, seat numbers, course progression, and overall dining room flow.
• Coordinate with food runners and servers to ensure dishes reach the correct tables promptly.
• Communicate immediately with the kitchen and FOH teams when an order is incorrect, missing, delayed, or needs to be remade.
• Help prioritize tickets during high-volume periods while maintaining Jean’s standards for quality and presentation.
• Keep the expo station clean, organized, stocked, and ready for service.
• Maintain composure and clear communication during busy or high-pressure periods.
• Assist with pre-service preparation and ensure the expo station is fully set before service begins.
• Participate in pre-shift meetings and stay informed about menu changes, specials, unavailable items, VIPs, allergies, and other important service notes.
• Support the overall FOH and BOH teams as needed to create an efficient, professional, and positive service environment.

• Previous restaurant, food runner, server, kitchen, or expeditor experience preferred.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Strong understanding of food allergies, dietary restrictions, and the importance of proper communication surrounding them.
• Ability to remain calm, focused, and professional during high-volume service.
• Team-oriented attitude with the ability to communicate effectively between FOH and BOH.
• Familiarity with restaurant POS systems and ticket management is a plus.
• Reliable, punctual, and committed to maintaining Jean’s service standards.
