This role will collaborate with nursing and other healthcare staff to develop and implement treatment plans, prescribe medications, and ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care. The Physician will also maintain accurate medical records and adhere to all healthcare regulations and facility policies.Below is just a sample of the amazing reasons to consider working for MEDIKO!MEDIKO was founded almost 30 years ago by the same physician that still owns and operates the company today.As a physician you will report clinically to our Chief Medical Officer.No work on weekends; no work on holidays.You can choose to work 2 8-hour days or split the time into 3 days per week.A dedicated nurse will assist you when you see patients.Average patient load is between 2-3 per hour.You will have autonomy to refer individuals to a specialist as needed.Our formulary is comprehensive and allows you to prescribe the appropriate type of medications based solely on your judgment.A skilled and experienced Nurse Practitioner will work alongside you.Nurses use comprehensive and practical Nursing Guidelines when screening individual patients before you see the patients.The detention center is staffed by licensed healthcare professionals 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.All behavioral and mental health patients are diagnosed and managed by Licensed Mental Health clinicians and Psychiatry practitioners.The medical department at the detention center has protocols and guidelines already in place for management of individuals who might be in active withdrawal from alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, or other illicit substances.Our designated medical records assistants will obtain offsite medical records for the patients.Our EMR system is very user-friendly and dedicated, in-house experts personally train and troubleshoot any issues as needed.No insurance hassles! There are no headaches from Prior Authorizations, Denials, Appeals, exhaustive paperwork, or collections.Most new arrivals to the detention center are released or bonded out within the first week.MEDIKO provides training and orientation into correctional medicine by physicians and personnel with decades of experience in the field.MEDIKO provides and pays for your Professional Liability Insurance (also known as Malpractice Insurance).MEDIKO is the only company in the country that has not lost a single lawsuit since its inception.How YOU can Make an Impact:Deliver high-quality, evidence-based medical care to incarcerated individuals in compliance with facility policies, clinical guidelines, and medical best practices.Conduct thorough medical assessments, including H&Ps, to diagnose any conditions and develop individualized treatment plans for patients. Address both acute and chronic medical conditions.Prescribe medications, therapies, and other medical interventions as necessary, ensuring safe and effective treatment for patients. Monitor and adjust treatment plans based on patient progress and evolving health needs.Work closely with PAs, APRNs, Nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide coordinated, holistic care for inmates. Participate in case discussions and treatment plan development, ensuring a collaborative approach to patient care.Provide medical care for patients with mental health conditions, working in collaboration with Psychiatrists or other mental health specialists to ensure the best outcomes for individuals with dual medical and psychiatric diagnoses.Respond to and manage medical emergencies, including trauma, psychiatric crises, and other urgent health situations, ensuring immediate, effective interventions. Provide leadership in emergency medical responses.Educate patients on managing chronic conditions, preventing health issues, and understanding treatment plans. Advocate for inmate health needs and contribute to a supportive environment for all individuals in care.Document promptly and properly.Participate in continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care and clinical outcomes. Adhere to infection control, safety, and security protocols while maintaining high standards of care within the correctional environment.Provide education, mentorship, and guidance to healthcare staff, including physicians, nurses, and other providers, on best practices, medical protocols, and evolving standards of care.Serve as a medical leader within the facility, supporting and mentoring other healthcare providers. Assist in identifying opportunities for improving care delivery, workflow, and the overall healthcare environment.Participate in Call-by-Phone coverage rotation, to ensure continuity of care and address urgent healthcare needs of inmates.Work with correctional officers and facility leadership to ensure healthcare needs of inmates are met while maintaining security and safety within the correctional setting. Address any barriers to care resulting from the correctional environment.Uphold the highest standards of professional ethics, ensuring that all medical practices comply with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as institutional policies.
