Job Description
Sterile Processing Technician

We are seeking a dedicated Sterile Processing Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for processing and sterilizing surgical and hospital instruments and equipment, ensuring a high standard of safety and quality in patient care.

Job Summary

The Sterile Processing Technician will execute the following key responsibilities:

• Decontaminate and process instruments, including compiling instrument sets and counting instruments for accuracy.
• Sterilize instruments, trays, basins, and other equipment in accordance with established protocols, ensuring appropriate exposure and drying times.
• Prepare instruments for immediate use sterilization when necessary.
• Maintain a clean and orderly environment within the department, including daily cleaning of surfaces and equipment.
• Assist in room turnover and terminal cleaning in the Operating Room suites as needed.
• Pick supplies and instruments for upcoming surgical cases.
• Perform daily diagnostic tests on sterilizing equipment, including biological indicators and diagnostic cycles for endoscope processors.
• Evaluate instruments for functionality and safety during reprocessing.
• Provide reprocessing services for ancillary department instruments.
• Record and track loaner instrument information for accountability.
• Manage biological incubator operations and log results for biological testing.
• Support technical services in the operating room and related departments as required.
• Report directly to the perioperative services manager under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate's/Technical Degree or an equivalent combination of education and related experience preferred.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Sterile Processing Technician certification is required.
• Hospital Fire and Life Safety certification is required.
