The Brook Hospital KMI is seeking a Milieu Specialist who will have responsibility for the development and implementation of the therapeutic milieu within the Acute Psychiatric Services unit. To ensure safety and consistency in treating the patients, the Milieu Specialist will encourage a team approach to therapeutic interventions. In consultation with the Nurse Managers, Director of Clinical Services, and the Chief Nursing Officer, they will assist the Nurse Supervisors in monitoring unit activities and daily duties assigned to the Mental Health Technicians. The role of the Milieu Specialist is that of a resource to the members of the interdisciplinary treatment team with a goal of fostering a therapeutic milieu that encourages the achievement of treatment goals. This might include assistance with the direct care and management of the patients; the provision of supervision, safety, and crisis management for the patient population; completion of documentation of patient behavior and participation in programming; adherence to scheduled activities; role modeling positive, mature behavior; utilizing positive behavioral strategies to minimize patient crisis and maximize success. The position hours are 2nd Shift Evening 1pm-10:30pm or 2pm-11:30pm. Minimum of 5 years experience working in direct care settings. Must possess knowledge of psychiatric group processes, therapeutic relationships, client–specific programming, age‑specific development, limit setting, and behavior management, crisis management with aggressive urges and behaviours.
