SUMMARY MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a full‑time Assistant Professor to join the Department of General Oncology within the Division of Cancer Medicine . This opportunity is offered at the Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital (MD Anderson Oncology Program).LBJ Hospital is part of the safety‑net health system providing primary, specialty and hospital care forthe diverse, underserved populations of Harris County, Texas. This faculty position is responsible to the Chairperson of the Department of General Oncology who reports to the Head of the Division of Medicine. The successful candidate will establish a successful robust clinical practice and educational program in the field of General Oncology. This program would include developing a world‑class operation for caring for patients and developing educational programs for students, residents, and fellows. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES Clinical Provide clinical expertise in patient care management and an appropriate teaching environment for fellows, residents and students in the specialty of medical oncology and in areas appropriate to the candidate's training. The successful candidate is expected to collaborate and initiate clinical trials. Research The candidate will be expected to participate in and contribute to studies of research studies. Ability to translate results from clinical trials to patient care is a crucial aspect of this position. This requires publication of reviews, book chapters and other scholarly work. This requires excellent oral and written skills as well as the ability to synthesize information pertaining to this area of research. The program necessitates instruction of trainees and other individuals. Candidates should be interactive and willing to participate in collaborative studies ongoing in the department. Interest and a published track‑record in health disparities, outcomes research and community health is preferred. CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Administrative Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills while working collaboratively with physicians, scientists, trainees, and staff. Represent the Department of General Oncology at local, regional, state, and national professional meetings and activities. Serve as a role model and mentor for faculty, fellows, residents, and students. Participate in departmental peer review, quality improvement initiatives, and institutional committees as assigned. Education/Teaching Provide clinical instruction and education to fellows, residents, medical students, and other learners in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Participate in departmental teaching conferences, continuing medical education and other academic activities. Mentor trainees and support their clinical and professional development. Participate in fellowship education and committee activities, as appropriate. Research Participate in clinical research, scholarly activities, and academic initiatives that support the department's mission. Contribute to the development of clinical and educational programs. Pursue research funding and other funding opportunities, when appropriate. Service Develop and maintain a robust General Oncology practice while providing high-quality, patient-centered cancer care. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive oncology care. Maintain timely clinical documentation, accurate coding, and effective communication with referring providers and healthcare teams. Participate in continuing medical education and remain current with advances in General Oncology. Serve as a clinician‑educator through excellence in patient care, teaching, mentorship, and professionalism. Participate in peer review and quality improvement activities that support clinical excellence. EDUCATION & LICENSURE M.D., D.O., or M.D./Ph.D. Board certified or board eligible in Medical Oncology and Hematology. Completion of appropriate postgraduate medical training in Medical Oncology and Hematology. Eligible for or licensed to practice medicine in the State of Texas. EXPERIENCE At least 2 years of experience at the Instructor level or 5 years of post‑degree experience in any combination of the following: Clinician Clinical Scientist (GME) training (excluding specialties with shorter residency or fellowship programs) Completion of appropriate post‑medical doctoral training relevant to the specialty.
