The Department of Breast Medical Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking an Assistant Professor, Clinical Faculty Appointment (CFA), to join a nationally recognized team dedicated to transforming the future of breast cancer care through clinical excellence, research, education, and innovation. CLINICAL (Patient Care) Practice clinical medicine in an exemplary manner in standards set forth by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners properly balanced with other academic activities. Capable of providing complete and thorough history and physical patient examinations. Perform invasive procedures as dictated by the physician's subspecialty. Develop and maintain a clinical practice for patients referred to MD Anderson Cancer Center. Provide physician staffing as appropriate for a training center and consult service at a level commensurate with that which would be provided by other physicians with the same level of training and experience. Review for proper ICD-10 and CPT coding and approve all charge documents within established timeframes. Complete patient documentation for medical records within timeframes provided by institutional policy. Correspond in writing or by telephone with physicians regarding patient care and treatment. Keep abreast of current approaches in the management of patients through attendance at continuing education conferences in the specialty. Share clinical responsibilities with other faculty, including inpatient service, outpatient clinic, outpatient procedures, and other duties as requested. Request appropriate consultations for patients through written or verbal communication with other physicians. Provide peer review for assessing the clinical practice of faculty within the department. Participate in quality improvement and institutional effectiveness or healthcare excellence projects.ADMINISTRATIVE AND SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES
Participate in investigation and review of best practice initiatives and clinical and institutional effectiveness projects. Serve on institutional and hospital committees as requested by the Chair. Represent the Department by participating in or presenting at local, regional, state, and national meetings in the field of medical oncology.RESEARCH RESPONSIBILITIES
Actively engage in clinical and translational research and scholarly activities to enhance the academic environment of the department. Develop research programs and scholarly activities in keeping with the goals of the department. Identify grants and funding sources for research; submit grants and protocols in accordance with applicable rules and deadlines; and develop budgets, analyses, grant applications, and protocol submissions.EDUCATION AND TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES
Act as a role model for faculty, fellows, residents, and students. Provide a balanced and integrated educational program for residents and fellows. Attend and participate in Department teaching and continuing education conferences. Supervise trainees as needed during their clinical rotations, including doctoral and master's degree students, postdoctoral research fellows, clinical residents and fellows, and visiting scientists.SERVICE (EXTERNAL OR EXTRAMURAL)
Participate in external or extramural service activities, including external research committees, collaborative research activities, conferences, professional society activities, study sections, and staff meetings. Edit and/or review presentations, abstracts, protocols, manuscripts, books, publications, reports, research proposals, grant applications, patents associated with research, and other scholarly materials.EDUCATION
Required: Doctorate-level degree in a field appropriate to faculty role and department mission Licensed to practice in the State of Texas Board certified (or obtained within departmental timeline) unless exemptedEXPERIENCE
Required: At least two (2) years as Instructor or (5) years post clinical degree with any combination of time as a: clinician, clinical scientist or GME trainee (except specialties with shorter residencies or fellowships). Appropriate post medical doctoral training per discipline.LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
