We are seeking an experienced  Controller to oversee all accounting and financial operations for our growing organization. This leadership role is responsible for maintaining the integrity of our financial reporting, ensuring accurate job costing, managing cash flow, and providing financial insight that supports strategic business decisions.

The ideal candidate is a proactive financial leader with strong analytical skills, experience managing accounting teams, and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership

• Maintain accurate financial records and reporting
• Lead the accounting, billing, and accounts receivable teams
• Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards
• Provide financial guidance to executive leadership

Accounting & Financial Reporting

• Prepare and close monthly financial statements
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts
• Review revenue recognition and job cost allocations
• Analyze financial performance and explain budget variances

Job Costing & Profitability

• Ensure accurate job setup and cost coding
• Monitor job costs against estimates and billings
• Analyze gross margins by job, service line, and location
• Partner with Operations and Project Management to improve profitability

Accounts Receivable, Billing & Cash Flow

• Oversee billing accuracy and collections
• Monitor aging reports and resolve outstanding issues
• Forecast cash flow and identify financial risks
• Support collaboration between Billing, AR, and Operations

Accounts Payable & Expense Management

• Supervise accounts payable processes
• Ensure vendor invoices are properly approved and coded
• Manage vendor relationships and payment schedules
• Monitor spending for policy and budget compliance

Payroll & Labor Cost Oversight

• Review payroll for accuracy and compliance
• Monitor labor costs, overtime, and burden rates
• Ensure labor is properly allocated to jobs
• Support compliance with wage and hour regulations

Budgeting & Forecasting

• Develop annual budgets
• Prepare rolling financial forecasts
• Monitor financial performance against budget
• Provide recommendations to support company growth

Compliance & Internal Controls

• Maintain compliance with GAAP and company policies
• Support external audits and insurance audits
• Strengthen internal controls to reduce financial risk
• Ensure financial data integrity and system security

Reporting & Leadership

• Prepare financial dashboards and key performance indicators
• Present financial results and business insights to ownership and executive leadership
• Train, mentor, and develop accounting staff
• Drive continuous process improvements

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
• 5+ years of progressive accounting and financial management experience
• Previous Controller or Assistant Controller experience preferred
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
• Experience with job costing and project-based accounting
• Strong leadership and team management skills
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software
