Job Title Publisher Locations New York, Jersey City, or Philadelphia – Hybrid Working Model Application Deadline July 28, 2026 About the Role The Publisher will oversee the management and strategic growth of approximately 19 high‑quality, peer‑reviewed academic journals in the humanities and social sciences, including a large society portfolio. The role focuses on developing journal portfolios, maintaining relationships with external partners, and driving Mandated annual performance metrics. Responsibilities Maintain and develop relationships with Editors‑in‑Chief, Editorial Board Members, and society representatives. Monitor project status through reporting systems; apply business insights to identify opportunities and address challenges. Prioritize journals for development and inclusion in company initiatives based on market intelligence and strategic objectives. Support journal management through contract renewals and recruitment of new Editors‑in‑Chief. Resolve queries and maintain proactive communication with stakeholders via email, phone, virtual meetings, and occasional travel. Collaborate with production, peer‑review management, research integrity, marketing, and other internal teams on projects and cross‑functional initiatives. Maintain knowledge of COPE guidelines and advise on publication ethics queries. Communicate with US and international editorial counterparts on operational matters and strategic initiatives. Coordinate program activities with various Springer Nature offices and business units; share market insights and align with organizational priorities. Represent Springer Nature at local and international conferences, building industry networks and identifying new portfolio opportunities. Apply pedagogy, market developments, business performance, and strategic priorities to support ongoing portfolio success. Perform related duties as required, demonstrating adaptability, judgment, and a strategic problem‑solving approach. Essential Qualifications College degree (related subject area a plus). 3–5 years of experience in a similar publishing role (journals or books) in an academic or research environment. Experience developing and sustaining productive external partnerships. Strong collaboration skills with colleagues at all levels and ability to work independently. Excellent communication, influencing, coaching, and organizational skills with meticulous administrative attention. Client‑focused mindset, ownership to drive tasks, and high critical‑thinking/problem‑solving abilities. Proactive approach to change, innovation, and adaptability. Consistent ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities. Occasional travel. Desirable Qualifications Demonstrated interest or experience in behavioral and social sciences. Familiarity with Open Access, academic publishing, and publication ethics. History of managing a journal portfolio with growth and results. Benefits Competitive salary range: $80,000 – $90,000 (US).
