Radiation Therapist - RADIATION ONCOLOGY - Mon Medical Center Main Campus

Job Summary

The Radiation Therapist has the primary role to ensure safe, accurate and efficient delivery of radiation treatments withstringent attention to detail in reviewing patient charts to insure that the necessary documentation is completed prior toimplementing radiation treatments, and to ensure that the treatments are administered in accordance with the treatmentprescription and treatment parameters. In addition, the Lead Radiation Therapist has administrative and supervisoryresponsibilities to ensure that the Radiation Therapists are functioning in accord with department policies and proceduresand meeting technical standards, as well as managing the treatment machine and simulator schedules. The positionrequires expertise in both clinical and CT simulation (including acquisition of 4D CT images) as well as the use ofimmobilization and treatment devices to insure reproducibility in the clinical setup for daily treatments. The positionrequires close collaboration with the radiation oncologist, radiation physicist, medical dosimetrist, nursing, medicalassistant, and office manager as well as strong interpersonal skills in the provision of care to patients.

Responsibilities

Administration of Radiation Therapy
Maintains a neat, clean and organized treatment room and console area. Maintains appropriate labeling, storage and use of treatment devices assigned to each patient. Accepts and adheres to physician directives and/or suggestions in a positive manner. Accepts co-workers input and/or suggestions in a positive manner. Engages in interactions with others in a professional and constructive manner. Engages in discourse in a professional and constructive manner. Exhibits keen awareness and attention to detail in performing tasks, particularly in respect toperforming daily warm up procedures of the treatment machine, reviewing pre-treatment/simulationdocumentation, reviewing patient charts, and adherence to treatment parameters, treatment prescription, andtreatment delivery objectives. Assists in coordinating patient care with other providers. Assists patients as needed and/or requested. Defers to management when there is uncertainty in a situation. Maintains accurate and thorough documentation, and in a timely manner. Consistently provides patient education. Adheres to the treatment prescription guidelines for each patient. Maintains ongoing communication with the physician regarding patient issues and/or concerns, andin a timely manner. Demonstrates excellent patient care, and addresses patient needs in a timely manner.
Maintains an organized treatment machine and simulation schedule. Maintains and/or adjusts the treatment schedule as requested by the physician. Is always willing to assist in emergency situations. Demonstrates thorough understanding of the policy and procedures of the radiation oncology department. Demonstrates thorough understanding of the policy and procedures of Mon Health Medical Center. Immediately reports unsafe conditions or mishaps to management.

Quality Assurance
Is an active participant in chart rounds. Is an active participant in the continuous quality improvement program. Is an active participant in other department meetings. Demonstrates attention to detail to ensure patient safety and quality of care. Demonstrates a willingness to assist coworkers throughout the department.

Simulations for Radiation Therapy
Maintains a neat, clean and organized simulation room and console. Demonstrates proficiency with treatment devices. Demonstrates proficiency with clinical simulations. Demonstrates proficiency with CT and/or PET-CT simulations. Accepts physician directives and/or suggestions in a positive manner. Accepts co-workers input and/or suggestions in a positive manner. Exhibits keen awareness and attention to detail in performing tasks, particularly in respect toperforming daily warm up procedures of the simulation machine, reviewing treatment planning notes,necessary pre-simulation documentation, reviewing patient charts, and performing simulations. Assists patient's as needed and/or requested. Maintains accurate and thorough documentation, and in a timely manner. Consistently provides patient education. Adheres to the treatment planning note for each patient. Maintains open communication with the physician regarding patient issues and/or concerns. Demonstrates a high standard of quality care. Demonstrates excellent patient care, and addresses patient needs in a timely manner. Maintains an organized and efficient simulation machine schedule. Maintains and/or adjusts the simulation schedule as requested by the physician. Respects patient privacy and modesty at all times. Demonstrates proficiency in the simulation of radiotherapy. Is always willing to assist in emergency situations. Demonstrates integrity in performing tasks. Demonstrates thorough understanding of the policy and procedures of the radiation oncologydepartment. Demonstrates thorough understanding of the policy and procedures of Mon Health Medical Center.

Performs Other Duties as Required
Attends mandatory in-services, staff meetings, and actively participates in self-education. Completes all required competency assessments on time. Maintains required job knowledge (e.g. licensure and credentials, continuing education etc.). Performs other duties as required, including the general and occasional upkeep of the common areasof the station.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Light Work: Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to10 lbs with a maximum lifting of 25 lbs.

Preferred: Four years' experience as a Radiation Therapy Technologist.
