Infection Control Assistant

Overview Under supervision, this individual will assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of infection control measures/policies throughout the organization. They will support activities for prevention and control of healthcare‐associated infections, conduct risk assessment processes, serve as the primary point of contact for reporting and follow‑up with local Department of Health agencies on communicable disease, update and manage the Infection Control page on the intranet, coordinate the office’s day‑to‑day administrative activities, facilitate surveillance activities, and participate in education and training activities. Primary Responsibilities Assist epidemiology department and infection control practitioners with coordination of office activities. Maintain awareness of deadlines and plan appropriately. Maintain an organized workspace and manage both paper and computer files. Coordinate, schedule, and develop agendas, office appointments, meetings, conferences, and projects in a timely manner. Initiate correspondence, fax, and copying tasks. Attend internal committee meetings, take minutes, and maintain employee time card records. Collect central line data in patient care units and daily microbiology reports; sort reports for targeted organisms. Compile accurate and timely reports on infection rates. Communicate infection control issues and reportable diseases promptly to relevant hospital departments and public health agencies. Ensure timely maintenance of infection control databases, including MDRO flagging, DOH report access, and outbreak investigation records. Collaborate with Infection Control staff to identify trends and implement prevention efforts. Contribute to infection control patient care policies and protocols by posting to the intranet and creating announcements. Assist infection control practitioners with outbreak and exposure investigations and data preparation for reports. Minimum Education Bachelor’s in Nursing (BSN) – required. Master’s in Epidemiology, Public Health, or Microbiology – required. Minimum Experience Previous experience as an Infection Control practitioner or Epidemiologist is preferred. Required Skills and Knowledge Excellent written, interpersonal, time‑management, and presentation skills with flexibility to meet a wide range of service needs. Proficient in Microsoft Office software. Basic knowledge of statistics and epidemiologic methods. Location and Work Schedule Primary Location: District of Columbia – Washington.
