Medical Assistant - Dermatology Job Summary This position provides assistive care to patients in ourDermatology clinics. The incumbent facilitates the efficientdelivery of patient care, supports the professional role of thelicensed staff, and provides support and assistance as directed bylicensed staff in rendering basic healthcare to the patient. Thisposition also assists with clerical functions as a multi-skilledauxiliary worker. This position may be required to access andadminister medications within their scope of practice and accordingto State Law. This position may travel to multiple locations, including ourMidvalley clinic in Murray, pediatric clinics in Salt Lake andLehi, and Population Health Clinic in Rose Park. Responsibilities Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic proceduresaccording to clinic procedures such as recording temperatures,pulse rate, blood pressure and responses to standardized medicalhistory questions. Reports all observed patient concerns and changes in conditionto a licensed staff member. Performs Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA)Waved Lab tests as identified by department and reports results tothe appropriate personnel. May perform patient phlebotomy inaccordance with clinic procedures and physician orders afterspecialized training. Performs additional skills such as suture removal, straightcatheterization and injections (IM, Subq and intra-dermal). Acts as a chaperone for health care providers during patientexamination as requested and assists with procedures. Monitors and cleans assigned patient examination rooms, unitareas and unit equipment reporting outdated supplies, stock levelsand restock set levels of items and necessary equipmentrepairs. Answers telephones, forwards telephone messages and under thedirection of licensed staff schedules appointments, procedures anddiagnostic tests. Assists in routine clerical functions such as filing of medicalinformation in patient's records, locating and compiling departmentcharts, obtaining medical records from other providers and enteringcharges for billing purposes. Attends and completes mandatory education including infectionprevention and control, safety, CPR, equipment usage and proceduresaccording to hospital and department policies. May apply leads and monitors for diagnostic procedures such asEKG and ultrasound scan under the direct supervision of licensedpersonnel. May assist inpatient and family education by providingeducational material and general health information to patients andfamily members. May assist with transportation of patients to ancillarydepartments or inpatient units as directed by licensed staff. May instruct in Basic Life Support (BLS) requirements. May perform other duties based on department assigned. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Ability to perform the essential functions of the job asoutlined above. Demonstrated phlebotomy skills. Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills. Demonstrated proficiency in the specific clinic's specialtyskills within six weeks of hire. *Specialty skills may not be performed until after the new hire completed basic competencytesting. Ability to withstand the physical demand of being on your feetfor long periods of time, of moving and lifting patients and ofreaching for and handling equipment. Minimum Qualifications Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through theUniversity of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to beobtained within 30 days of hire Verifiable completion of one (1) of the following: State approved EMT course. One (1) year of Medical Assistant experience in an ambulatorycare clinic or other healthcare setting. Medical Assisting education program. University Hospital Medical Assistant certificationprogram.
