Senior Manager, Campaigns & ContentThe University of Lynchburg, a private, regional university in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Central Virginia, is seeking applicants for a full-time Senior Manager of Campaigns and Content position in the Department of Marketing and Communications for the University of Lynchburg.This position reports to, is supervised by, and evaluated by the Vice President of Marketing and Communications. The evaluation of work performance will be ongoing and will include the specific duties and responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitude and general working behavior.Job Type: Full-TimeJob Purpose:The Senior Manager of Campaigns & Content leads the University's campaign management and content creation function, overseeing a team of creative professionals – including copywriters, editors, graphic designers, and multimedia specialists (photo and video) – to produce high-quality, brand-consistent, campaign-relevant communications across print, digital, and multimedia platforms. The Sr. Manager of Campaigns & Content is the University's lead brand voice architect, responsible for developing and protecting the editorial standards, messaging frameworks, and storytelling approaches that define how the University of Lynchburg speaks to prospective students, current students, alumni, donors, and the broader community. This individual reports to the Vice President for Marketing & Communications and ensures all campaigns and content are purposeful, on-brand, and achieve marketing and advertising goals.Specific Job Duties:Campaign Leadership: Design and lead integrated multi-channel campaigns from audience definition and creative brief through launch, optimization, and final measurement; manage campaigns concurrently across undergraduate and graduate recruitment timelines.Strategic Communications Planning: Create integrated communications plans, including messaging frameworks and channel plans, in support of university priorities and recruitment cycles.Campaign Content Strategy: Develop campaign content plans, channel plans, and editorial calendars in partnership with the Sr. Manager of Communications and Principal Strategist to ensure operational execution and performance measurement.Content Leadership and Team Management: Lead, inspire, and mentor a team of copywriters, editors, and multimedia content specialists; provide guidance and direction to ensure the highest quality of written output, adherence to project timelines, and alignment with university objectives. Foster a collaborative, innovative work environment that encourages creative excellence and professional growth.Copywriting and Editorial Direction: Serve as the University's editorial lead, setting and maintaining the tone, voice, and style standards for all written communications. Write, edit, and oversee copy across a full range of formats: web pages, landing pages, email campaigns, print collateral, social media, advertising copy, video scripts, news articles, alumni features, and institutional publications.Messaging Framework Development: Create integrated messaging frameworks for undergraduate and graduate recruitment cycles, donor communications, institutional initiatives, and key audience segments; ensure messaging is consistent, compelling, and aligned to the University's brand promise and strategic objectives.Brand Voice and Editorial Standards: Develop, document, and maintain the University's editorial style guide and content standards; provide guidance and training to internal stakeholders and content contributors across campus on brand voice, writing best practices, and editorial integrity.Content Optimization: Collaborate with the analytics function to track and report content KPIs (engagement rates, conversion rates, email open and click-through rates, web traffic); use data to iterate and improve editorial approaches over time.Cross-Functional Partnership: Work closely with Admissions, Advancement, academic units, the Athletics department, and other campus partners to understand their communications needs and ensure the content team delivers accurate, audience-appropriate, brand-consistent materials.Quality Assurance: Supervise all work produced by the content team and review materials produced by contracted writers, ensuring every piece meets the highest standards of accuracy, clarity, and professionalism before publication or distribution.Innovation and Trends: Stay current on content marketing trends, editorial best practices, evolving audience expectations, and AI-assisted writing tools; incorporate relevant innovations to enhance the team's output and efficiency.Mentorship and Development: Provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and professional development support to writers and content specialists; lead knowledge-sharing within the team and support a culture of continuous editorial improvement.Salary Range: $60,000 - $70,000Benefits:Generous paid vacation, personal days, paid sick time and family leave, comprehensive insurance (medical, dental, vision, etc.) and retirement plans, flexible spending account, tuition remission, life and long-term disability insurance, and more. Learn more about employment benefits at the University of Lynchburg.Schedule: 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. (7.5 hours/day with some evenings and weekends to meet needs of the department may be required)Experience/Skills:Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred. 6+ years of experience in copywriting, content strategy, editorial management, marketing, or a related field, preferably within higher education or a nonprofit environment.Exceptional Writing and Editing: Demonstrated mastery of long- and short-form writing and editing across multiple formats and audiences, with a portfolio of work that reflects range, clarity, and strategic intent.Leadership Skills: Proven track record of leading and mentoring small creative teams, managing workloads, and delivering high-quality content under deadline pressure.Brand and Messaging Acumen: Experience developing and maintaining brand voice guidelines, messaging frameworks, and editorial style standards across an organization.Campaign and Content Strategy: Ability to develop marketing campaigns and editorial content strategies aligned to marketing and enrollment goals, with experience managing editorial calendars and multi-channel content plans.Collaboration and Communication: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with diverse campus stakeholders, translating their goals into compelling written communications.Organizational Skills: Excellent project management abilities; capable of managing multiple concurrent projects, assignments, and writers while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.Digital Proficiency: Familiarity with CMS platforms, email marketing tools, and basic SEO writing principles; comfort working alongside analytics and digital marketing colleagues to optimize content performance.Physical Demands:Prolonged sitting and wrist movementQualificationsRequired Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
