Position Overview

The Packaging Technician is responsible for safely and efficiently packaging finished food products in accordance with company quality, food safety, and production standards. This position ensures products are properly packaged, labeled, inspected, and prepared for distribution while maintaining compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety regulations, and company policies.

Essential Functions

General

· Notify Lead when a machine or quality-related issue is found. Let the lead decide whether to call Maintenance, QA, or the shift Supervisor.

· Perform Washout, Hot Rinse, and Changeover with correct steps.

· Attain packaging materials; as needed. Ask the lead if help is needed to down-stack pallets.

· Assemble pallet bottoms and tops when running Costco product.

· Assemble the corrugated box when doing hand packing.

· Change film roll when needed.

· Clear minor errors on the bagger when the lead is on break or lunch.

· Ergonomically perform all tasks to ensure safety in compliance with GMP standards, OSHA regulations, and company policies

· Adhere to required PPE standards in accordance with the task requirements.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

· Follow correct rotation per company policy.

Sorting

· Inspect and sort all crackers within the designated timeframe, distinguishing between burnt, undercooked, and satisfactory guidelines.

· Gather kick-out bags from each piece of equipment. Rerun good bags through the equipment. Open bags that are not in spec and put the crackers back onto the conveyor.

Patting

· Place the packaged product correctly onto the conveyor into the cartoner to ensure efficiency.

· Inspect each bag for any foreign materials, bad crackers, and open seals as you are patting.

· Clear minor errors and jams on the cartoner.

· Retrieve kick-out bags.

Floating

· Keep the carton magazine loaded on the cartoner.

· Help clear minor errors and jams on the cartoner.

· Check the gluer on the cartoner periodically. Refill glue if needed.

· Put kick-out bags before X-Ray.

· Maintain a clean work area free of debris and product by minimizing the amount of product that falls onto the floor.

· Insert empty hoppers into the overflow conveyor.

· Insert hoppers containing product into docking stations. Put hopper tags on hoppers.

Palletizing

· Palletize cases of finished product following the case count per pallet required.

· Check the lot number and best by date, as well as the box quality.

· Add a corrugated box to the case.

· Check the gluers on the casing periodically. Refill glue if needed.

· Move the finished pallet to the wrapping machine to wrap it. Then move the wrapped pallet to the correct location.

· Clear minor errors and jams on the Caser, Box maker, and Box gluer.

· Open kick-out cases and repack good cartons or cases.
