Location: Tampa, FL – Near Tampa International Airport / Raymond James Stadium

Employment Type: Full-Time

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:30 PM, with rotating Saturdays

About the Opportunity

A well-established Tampa lumber supplier is seeking an experienced Inside Lumber Sales & Takeoff Specialist to join their team. This position is ideal for someone with strong lumber industry knowledge who can confidently read blueprints, perform accurate lumber takeoffs, and assist contractors and retail customers with their building material needs.

Approximately 70% of the customer base consists of commercial contractors, with the remaining 30% consisting of retail walk-in customers. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced sales environment while providing both efficient service to contractors and a friendly, welcoming experience to retail customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist contractors, builders, remodelers, and retail customers at the sales counter.

• Review construction blueprints and plans to prepare accurate lumber takeoffs.

• Create detailed material lists for lumber, plywood, and other required building materials.

• Prepare material estimates, quotes, and sales orders based on customer needs and project specifications.

• Recommend appropriate lumber and building materials based on project requirements.

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing customers while identifying opportunities to grow sales.

• Provide fast, accurate, and knowledgeable service to commercial contractor accounts.

• Provide friendly and helpful assistance to walk-in retail customers.

• Maintain knowledge of products, inventory, pricing, and available building materials.

• Stock shelves and organize materials as needed.

• Maintain a clean and organized sales area and assist with general housekeeping duties.

• Participate in rotating restroom cleaning responsibilities with the team.

• Work closely with other team members to ensure customers receive accurate and timely service.

• Lift and carry up to 35–50 pounds as needed.

Qualifications

• Previous lumber sales experience is required.

• Strong knowledge of lumber and building materials.

• Proven ability to read construction blueprints and plans.

• Experience completing accurate lumber takeoffs is required.

• Ability to review blueprints and develop detailed material lists, including lumber, plywood, and other building materials.

• Strong understanding of residential and/or commercial construction.

• Excellent customer service and communication skills.

• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

• Strong attention to detail, particularly when completing takeoffs and material estimates.

• Comfortable working directly with contractors and other construction professionals.

• Ability to balance sales, customer service, estimating, and general counter responsibilities.

Schedule

• Monday–Friday: 7:00 AM–4:30 PM

• Overtime available.

• Rotating Saturday schedule: 7:00 AM–12:00 PM, typically every other or every third Saturday.

• Saturday hours are paid as overtime.

Compensation

• $26.00-30.00 per hour, depending on experience.

• Exceptional candidates with strong lumber sales experience, advanced takeoff skills, and the full range of qualifications may be considered above the stated range, pending owner approval.

• Commission opportunity available.

• Commission is currently anticipated to be approximately 1% based on sales growth, including potential growth from new accounts and existing accounts.

• Final commission structure is subject to confirmation with ownership.
