Miscellaneous Billing Specialist

Job Description and Duties

The Accounting Operations section is recruiting for a motivated self-starter seeking a challenging, exciting and friendly working environment with a variety of work assignments at the Accountant I (Specialist) level within the Accounts Receivable (AR) unit. The incumbent will work as a Miscellaneous Billing Specialist performing semi-professional accounting work including reviewing, adjusting, and processing miscellaneous billing items as well as maintaining and reconciling Lottery accounting records related to Accounts Receivable. The incumbent initiates all necessary research, reasons logically and solves accounting problems by understanding and interpreting the goals, mission, laws, rules, and policies of the State and the Department. This position is headquartered at the Lottery Headquarters in Sacramento. This position is not eligible for telework.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

• Experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other software/technology.
• Knowledge of basic principles of accounting or financial record keeping and basic principles of Accounting.
• Ability to follow and interpret established policies and procedures including GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), CalHR,SAM, Government Codes, and Management Memos
• Ability to research, analyze, develop, present and implement recommendations about financial records
• Positive and effective communication skills (written and oral)
• Ability to manage and complete multiple priorities
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to analyze data and draw logical conclusions
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
