SPR Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls Specialist I-III

POSITION SUMMARY
Performs a variety of skilled work installing, operating, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing industrial electrical power distribution systems, motor control equipment, process instrumentation, and industrial control systems. Performs preventive and predictive maintenance on electrical infrastructure, motors, motor control centers (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), electrical distribution equipment up to 15kV, power monitoring equipment, process instrumentation, and associated control system hardware. Responds to occasional off-hour emergencies as needed. Provides limited support for analytical instrumentation through cross-training and collaboration with analytical instrumentation specialists as needed. Works under the direct supervision of the Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls (EI&C) Manager and indirectly under the Senior SCADA Administrator.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Installs, inspects, tests, troubleshoots, repairs and maintains electrical infrastructure and equipment, including power supplies, motors, motor starters, overload devices, breakers, switches, power monitors and other electrical related hardware.
2. Installs, inspects, tests, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains industrial electrical systems including motor control centers (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), transformers, UPS systems, electrical distribution equipment up to 15kV, conduit systems, grounding systems, and associated electrical infrastructure. Performs electrical testing including insulation resistance, continuity, voltage, current, power quality, and other diagnostic testing using appropriate electrical test equipment.
3. Installs, calibrates, maintains, and troubleshoots process instrumentation including flow, level, pressure, temperature, and other field instrumentation. Configures associated transmitters, communication networks, and field devices used in industrial process control systems.
4. Troubleshoots, repairs and maintains industrial control systems including PLC hardware, remote I/O, power supplies, communication networks, HMI interfaces, motor control systems, instrumentation, and SCADA-related equipment. Assists with startup, commissioning, and functional testing of electrical and control systems.
5. Troubleshoots, repairs and maintains instrumentation and control system components as well as other equipment related to the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system including controls components associated with motor control centers, PLC hardware, power supplies.
6. Demonstrates working knowledge of industrial communication networks including Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, Modbus, and other field communication protocols.
7. Applies logical troubleshooting techniques to diagnose electrical, instrumentation, and control system failures using electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, ladder logic, wiring diagrams, manufacturer documentation, and test equipment.
8. Performs electrical work in accordance with NFPA 70E, NEC, OSHA requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, arc flash boundaries, and SPR electrical safety policies.
9. Performs administrative duties including modification to record drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, HMI screens, I/O lists, and other technical information to perform job duties. Maintains Operation & Maintenance manuals, associated instrumentation drawings, and instrumentation standards operating procedures (SOPs), including digitally storing records per SPR Record and Retention Policies. Maintains and controls EI&C spare parts inventory by monitoring on-hand availability and determining reorder points.
10. Assists with the support of Engineering efforts, Pilot and Research (PAR) projects, and capital and asset improvement projects. Provides technical support during electrical system upgrades, MCC replacements, arc flash mitigation projects, power distribution improvements, and capital improvement projects. Provide electrical direction and instrumentation, technical support and expertise as needed.
11. Responds to off-hour emergencies as needed.

· Demonstrates working knowledge of industrial electrical equipment including motors, MCCs, VFDs, transformers, breakers, protective devices, power monitoring equipment, and electrical distribution systems.
· Maintains accurate documentation including electrical drawings, panel schedules, one-line diagrams, control schematics, preventive maintenance records, and equipment history.

QUALIFICATIONS
Instrumentation & Controls Specialist I*
Education, License, Certification, and Work Experience:
· High School Diploma or GED
· Minimum of one (1) year in Electrical or Instrumentation Apprenticeship Program or relevant electrical or instrumentation experience or completion of degree program in related technology.
· Some knowledge and experience with standard practices, principles, methods, materials, tools, and electronic test equipment used in the electrical industry.
· Basic understanding of GRC conduit installations as well as some ability to complete basic installations
· Some knowledge of the National Electrical Code as well as electrical safety requirements.
· Ability to learn control systems including, but not limited to PLC, and relay logic and industrial process networks.
· Ability to learn P&IDs, loop drawings, and control schematics.
· Good verbal written communication skills.
· Valid Colorado driver’s license and a clear or acceptable MVR.
Instrumentation & Controls Specialist II*
Education, License, Certification, and Work Experience:
· High School Diploma or GED
· Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience as an instrumentation technician or state registered electrical apprenticeship program or electrical maintenance technician.
· Working knowledge of standard practices, principles, methods, materials and tools used in the electrical industry.
· Intermediate ability to complete GRC conduit installations
· Knowledge of hazardous classified locations per the NEC
· Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code as well as electrical safety requirements.
· Intermediate understanding of control systems including but not limited to PLC and relay logic and industrial process networks.
· Working knowledge of P&IDs, loop drawings, and control schematics.
· Ability to organize and coordinate work assignments, including post-job follow-up documentation and communication. Somewhat independent decision-making abilities under general supervision.
· Performs, coordinates and/or manages electrical maintenance activities done internally as well as with contractors.
· Coordinates EI&C task orders projects
· Good verbal written communication skills.
· Valid Colorado driver’s license and a clear or acceptable MVR.
Instrumentation & Controls Specialist III*
Education, License, Certification, and Work Experience:
· High School Diploma or GED
· Minimum of six (6) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of industrial process control instrumentation, or similar automation/communication systems, or an equivalent combination of education or experience.
· Completion of a four (4) year state registered apprenticeship program in related field or an Academic degree (or equivalent) in a related technology.
· Advanced knowledge of standard practices, principles, methods, materials and tools used in the electrical industry.
· Advanced ability to complete GRC conduit installations.
· Advanced understanding of hazardous classified locations per the NEC
· Advanced knowledge of the National Electrical Code as well as electrical safety requirements.
· Advanced knowledge of control systems including, but not limited to PLC, and relay logic and industrial process networks.
· Advanced knowledge of P&IDs, loop drawings, and control schematics.
· Works with SPR project managers to assist in managing EI&C small scale capital projects at the technical/SME level.
· Coaches and mentors less experienced staff.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (in addition to above requirements):
New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: in-person interviews, reference checks, and background checks, which may include local police check, DMV check, drug screen, and fingerprint checks through CBI/FBI.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
· Ability to go up and down ladders and stairs frequently.
· Ability to work on scissor lifts and boom lifts occasionally.
