This position has regular contact with or control over Indian Children and Vulnerable Adults. Nisqually Tribal Members Only – Summer 2026 Internship

The Nisqually Indian Tribe is offering two paid summer internships for Nisqually Tribal Members. Interns will gain hands-on experience working with multiple Departments under the Tribal Administration as well as with Legal and Intergovernmental Affairs, developing practical skills while supporting the Tribe's governance and community.

Administration, Legal and Intergovernmental Affairs Focus

Interns will support a wide range of projects, including attending departmental meetings, working with the Nisqually Tribal Administration, Finance, Tribal Council, Legal Department and observing intergovernmental meetings and hearings in Nisqually Tribal Court.

Interns will gain familiarity with Tribal Codes, Policies, and the functioning of the Nisqually Tribal government and business enterprises. Interns will learn the role of Tribal Administration in supporting Tribal Council and overseeing Tribal Departments and Programs. Interns will also gain familiarity with intergovernmental affairs and government-to-government relationships.

*Intern Job Description

NATURE OF WORK: The Intern 1 assists in a variety of entry level tasks and assignments in a Tribal department.

The purpose of this position is to provide individuals with employment experience with the Tribe or in a field they are interested in. Incumbents will receive training in department procedures and may be assigned productive tasks and assignments in a variety of areas.

Internships at this level are intended for those without any work experience or for those who do not have work experience in a particular field. Internships are temporary and typically are only filled for special short-term projects having an established completion date, during vacation periods or school breaks.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Under immediate supervision, assist in a variety of entry-level tasks.
• May be assigned to a specific program or may rotate to gain different kinds of experiences.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Willingness to learn basic job duties as required by the Internship.
• Ability to follow directions; work with others; effectively communicate and maintain confidentiality.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be eligible for the Nisqually Workforce Development Program.
