Position Summary

The CPA Accountant will be responsible for managing the company's day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, cash flow management, project budgeting, and tax compliance in both the United States and Canada. This role will work directly with ownership and project management to provide accurate financial information and strategic financial guidance.

The ideal candidate is a licensed CPA with experience in construction, manufacturing, engineering, industrial services, or project-based businesses operating across international borders.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Bookkeeping

•Manage full-cycle accounting for U.S. and Canadian entities

•Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable

•Process and manage vendor payments

•Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and intercompany transactions

•Maintain general ledger and supporting schedules

•Ensure accuracy of all financial records

Financial Reporting

•Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements

•Generate management reports and KPI dashboards

•Analyze profitability by project, customer, and business unit

•Develop cash flow forecasts and working capital reports

•Present financial performance to management team

Project Budgeting & Cost Control

•Establish and monitor project budgets

•Track project costs, labor hours, procurement expenses, and change orders

•Support project managers with financial forecasting

•Analyze project profitability and margin performance

•Identify cost overruns and recommend corrective actions

Tax & Regulatory Compliance

•Prepare and coordinate U.S. federal and state tax filings

•Prepare and coordinate Canadian corporate tax filings

•Manage sales tax compliance, including:

oGST/HST

oPST

oU.S. Sales and Use Tax

•Coordinate with external tax advisors and auditors

•Ensure compliance with all applicable tax regulations and reporting deadlines

Payroll & Benefits

•Oversee payroll processing for U.S. and Canadian employees

•Manage payroll tax remittances and reporting

•Support employee benefit administration

•Ensure compliance with employment and payroll regulations

Strategic Financial Management

•Assist ownership with annual budgeting and forecasting

•Develop financial models and business projections

•Support acquisitions, financing, and growth initiatives

•Provide recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency

•Develop and implement accounting policies and internal controls

Required Qualifications

•Active CPA designation (U.S. CPA preferred)

•Minimum 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience

•Experience preparing and analyzing financial statements

•Experience managing multi-entity accounting operations

•Proficiency with QuickBooks

•Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

•Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

•Experience with U.S. and Canadian tax reporting

•Experience in construction, engineering, manufacturing, industrial contracting, or project-based businesses

•Familiarity with project costing and job-cost accounting

•Knowledge of USD/CAD foreign currency management

•Experience working in a growing small-to-medium-sized business

•Prior supervisory or controller-level experience

•Competitive salary: $70,000 – $90,000+ annually (depending on experience)
