This role involves performing high-quality MIG and TIG welding on various materials by reading and interpreting blueprints and machine drawings, setting up workpieces accurately, and producing precise welds in multiple positions. You will contribute to the fabrication and repair of parts and assemblies while maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient work area in a large, well-organized production environment.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints and machine drawings to determine specific welding requirements and ensure accurate fabrication.
• Manually guide the electrode or welding gun along the weld line, maintaining proper arc length and travel speed to achieve the required depth of fusion and bead quality.
• Perform welding in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions as needed for each project.
• Examine completed welds to verify bead size, appearance, and adherence to specifications, making adjustments as necessary.
• Repair broken or cracked parts and fill holes to restore components to required standards.
• Position and clamp workpieces together or assemble them in jigs and fixtures to ensure correct alignment before welding.
• Select appropriate torch, torch tip, filler rod, and flux based on welding charts and the type and thickness of material.
• Tack assemblies together to hold components in place prior to completing full welds.
• Chip off excess weld, slag, and spatter to achieve clean, finished welds.
• Clean or de-grease parts before welding to ensure proper weld quality and adhesion.
• Move parts into the welding area and transport finished products out of the welding area in an organized and safe manner.
• Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, orderly work area throughout the shift.

Essential Skills

• 6 months to 1 year of prior welding experience.
• Proficiency with MIG welding processes and equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and machine drawings accurately.
• Basic language skills to read and follow work instructions and safety guidelines.
• Basic math skills and reasoning ability to measure, calculate, and verify dimensions and tolerances.
• Capability to weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
• Ability to stand continuously for a 10-hour shift.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely and repeatedly.
• Attention to detail when examining welds for bead size and specification compliance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with TIG welding is beneficial.
• Experience with aluminum welding is a plus but not required.
• Comfort using welding charts to select torches, tips, filler rods, and flux for different materials and thicknesses.
• Strong focus on safety, cleanliness, and organization in the work area.

Work Environment

You will work in a clean, very large, and open production area designed for efficient welding and fabrication activities. The primary opening is on the first shift, Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (approximately 50 hours per week). A second shift schedule operates Monday through Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. (approximately 48 hours per week) and includes a shift differential of $1.75 per hour when available. Team members on second shift complete their initial training on first shift for 1 to 2 weeks to ensure proper onboarding. The environment involves standing for extended periods, handling materials up to 50 pounds, and working with welding equipment and related tools in a well-organized and safety-conscious setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Windom, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
