Assistant Teaching Professor in Computational Social Science and Cognitive Science

Position Overview Position title: Assistant Teaching Professor – Computational Social Science and Cognitive Science Anticipated start date: July 1, 2026 Location: San Diego, CA Associated Programs: Joint appointment in the Computational Social Science Program and the Cognitive Science Department, Division of Social Sciences, UC San Diego Salary range: $142k – $166k (UC salary scales apply; base $80k–$104k with possible off‑scale adjustments) Responsibilities Teach introductory undergraduate courses in Computational Social Science (CSS 1, 2, and 100) covering Python basics, introductory statistics, and machine learning, and develop new courses for the program. Provide graduate instruction in the M.S. program and lead the summer bootcamp for incoming graduate students. Deliver courses in the Cognitive Science Department on machine learning, data science, and computational modeling of cognition. Engage in professional and scholarly activities related to the pedagogical mission, including service for the program and university. Contribute to community building and outreach within the faculty, staff, and student body. Preferred Qualifications Ability and experience teaching Python‑based courses on modern computational social science methods at the undergraduate and graduate levels. A track record of scholarly contributions and completed projects working with computational models and large‑scale social science data. Ability to teach courses in Cognitive Science.
