The position is expected to contribute to interdisciplinary AI initiatives across SDSU and will receive an academic appointment in either the Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or Management Information Systems department depending on the candidate's academic training and expertise. SDSU hosts the James Silberrad Brown Center for Artificial Intelligence, and has invested in significant AI infrastructure in support of advanced AI and ML research and education. Current focus areas include foundational AI, social robotics, social media analysis, homeland security, and healthcare innovation. Qualified applicants will have demonstrated expertise in multimodal AI systems, generative AI, explainable and interpretable AI, foundation models and large language models, agentic AI and multi-expert reasoning, intelligent physics-based systems, or edge AI. This interdisciplinary AI position is expected to contribute to SDSU’s AI-forward strategic plan across the university. Qualifications Required qualifications by date of application A record of original research / scholarly accomplishments and demonstrated capacity to Develop a vigorous and independent program of research and scholarship in multimodal AI systems, generative AI, explainable and interpretable AI, foundation models and large language models, agentic AI and multi-expert reasoning, intelligent physics-based systems, or edge AI. Teach graduate and/or undergraduate courses; Terminal PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a closely related field, with all degree requirements met.
