Director of Chemistry, Small Molecule Process Development and Manufacturing

Biogen seeks a Director of Chemistry to lead small molecule process development teams from early-stage through late-phase drug development in Cambridge, MA. The role involves designing and optimizing robust manufacturing processes, mentoring scientific and engineering staff, managing regulatory documentation, and collaborating across functional areas to support clinical trials and medicine launches.

Responsibilities

• Lead collaborative teams designing and optimizing small molecule manufacturing processes from early through late-phase development
• Oversee experimental plans and guide implementation of safe, efficient, robust chemical processes
• Mentor and manage scientific and engineering colleagues to develop future leaders
• Develop process knowledge for scale-up from laboratory to manufacturing partners
• Author CMC sections of regulatory filings and communicate research results in team meetings

Requirements

• Master's or PhD degree in chemistry or related field
• 12+ years pharmaceutical or biotech process chemistry experience with people management
• Expert knowledge of synthetic strategies, impurity controls, and purification techniques
• Demonstrated leadership of project teams delivering APIs across multiple modalities
• Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills
• Familiarity with process safety, tech transfer protocols, and CMC regulatory requirements

Compensation: $188,000-$259,000 base
