Chief Digital and Technology Officer

The Opportunity

This is a newly expanded executive role created as part of a planned leadership transition, combining ownership of enterprise technology, cybersecurity, data, digital platforms, marketing, and ecommerce under a single Chief Digital and Technology Officer.

The company's technology foundation is stable. This is not a turnaround. The mandate is to preserve that stability while building a practical, right-sized roadmap for modernization, integration, and scale — connecting technology, marketing, and ecommerce into one coherent customer and revenue engine.

This leader will inherit three direct reports across IT, Marketing, and Sales Enablement/Ecommerce, plus approximately 10 additional team members. Each leader brings real strengths and real development needs; success depends on coaching and empowering this team, not replacing it.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise Technology & Cybersecurity

• Own the reliability, security, and performance of enterprise infrastructure, business systems, and service delivery.
• Build and execute a multiyear technology roadmap that modernizes ERP, CRM, and core systems without disrupting the business.
• Own cybersecurity, business continuity, and technology risk management.
• Manage vendors, managed service providers, and technology budgets with clear accountability for cost, quality, and delivery.

Digital Platforms, Data & AI

• Create a unified architecture connecting the website, ecommerce, ERP, CRM, and marketing platforms into one trusted customer view.
• Own data unification end-to-end — governance, integrations, ownership, and reporting — not just dashboards.
• Identify practical, well-governed AI use cases that improve marketing, service, forecasting, and productivity.

Marketing Leadership

• Set marketing strategy and evaluate performance across brand, content, email, social, events, and paid media, in partnership with the Director of Marketing.
• Build a disciplined demand generation engine with measurable pipeline contribution and ROI.
• Empower the Director of Marketing to lead day-to-day execution; this role sets direction and accountability, not campaign-level involvement.

Ecommerce

• Provide executive leadership for ecommerce, working with the leader of Sales Enablement to assess strategy, platform, and performance.
• Ensure ecommerce is understood and positioned as complementary to sales, not competitive with it.
• Prioritize B2B and government/contract-based ecommerce experience.

People & Leadership

• Coach and develop a team with varied experience levels, including a first-time manager and other leaders who need different styles of support.
• Establish clear priorities, decision rights, milestones, and accountability — without micromanaging.
• Lead with warmth, transparency, and high standards; be a visible, approachable presence across the organization.
• Model the organization's core values of wisdom, accountability, relationships, and excellence.

Qualifications

Required

• 10+ years of progressive executive leadership across enterprise technology, digital transformation, marketing, or ecommerce.
• Demonstrated success modernizing legacy systems and processes while maintaining business continuity.
• Experience scaling technology and operations in a company growing through a similar revenue range (mid-market, several hundred million to $1B+).
• Native, hands-on experience with a Tier 2 ERP platform (e.g., Epicor Prophet 21, NetSuite, or similar) — not a large-enterprise system like SAP.
• A commercial mindset that connects technology directly to revenue and the customer journey, not a purely technical or purely infrastructure orientation.
• Experience in a sales-led, commissioned, operationally complex environment — distribution, industrial products, B2B commerce, government contracting, or public sector services.
• A track record of developing and empowering leaders, including first-time managers.
• Strong emotional intelligence, humility, and an approachable, warm leadership style paired with high standards.

Preferred

• Experience with cooperative purchasing contracts or other public sector contract vehicles.
• B2B or government/contract-based ecommerce experience.
• Practical AI literacy — identifying use cases, governance, and business value.

Compensation & Location

• Base salary: $290,000–$325,000
• Annual bonus based on company gross profit performance, with a multiplier at this level
• Company-paid health insurance premiums
• Full-time, on-site role based in the Washington, D.C. metro area (Maryland); candidates should reside locally or be open to relocation
