Part‑Time Environmental Education Instructor – Burton 4‑H Center Posting Number S15134P Working Title: Part‑Time Environmental Education Instructor – Burton 4‑H Center Department: CAES‑Burton 4‑H Center Employment Type: Employee, Part Time Schedule: Schedule may vary based on the needs of the center (approx 50% full‑time equivalent) Salary: Commensurate with experience Location: Burton 4‑H Center – Tybee Island, Georgia Posting Date: 05/13/2026 Closing Date: 06/01/2026 Position Summary This permanent part‑time position involves independently leading K‑12 grade students through multidisciplinary classes in an outdoor setting. Class subjects include life and earth science, ecology, marine science, survival skills, team building, high and low ropes challenges, and pioneer living skills. Other responsibilities include animal care, maintenance of teaching areas and resources, facilities, grounds, and general support of the center’s operations. Key Responsibilities Lead multidisciplinary outdoor classes for 1‑2 or 3‑day field studies. Teach and implement innovative, curriculum‑aligned courses in science and environmental education. Maintain and clean facilities and grounds. Assist in dining hall operations. Provide office and reception support, schedule group visits, and support conference groups. Drive buses for group programming, support on‑call duties, and maintenance projects. Care for teaching animals and maintain the herpetology laboratory. Qualifications Minimum: Technical knowledge acquired through apprenticeship, 2‑year degree, or professional certificate. (Refer to HR for evaluation of education/experience). Preferred: Commitment to child development, dynamic personality, strong communication, creativity, and leadership ability. Skill in teaching a variety of subjects to K‑12 youth. Broad knowledge of outdoor education. Ability to communicate effectively with youth and adults. Ability to work independently. Ability to care for live teaching animals (reptiles, amphibians, and others). Physical Demands Work outdoors, exposed to adverse weather conditions. Lift 20‑40 pounds and walk up to 3 miles daily.
