Job Description and Duties

Join the CalPERS Private Equity team and help drive returns that secure retirement benefits for over two million members. As part of the nation’s largest public pension fund, our fast-paced, collaborative team works alongside top-tier global General Partners. We are seeking three Investment Officer III's (IO III) to serve as an advanced-level lead. In this role, you will coordinate day-to-day operations, review work, mentor junior investment staff, and support the strategic administration of the Private Equity program.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Lead the negotiation of legal terms governing private equity investments, including Limited Partnership Agreements (LPAs) and Side Letters. 
• Support the lead Investment Manager in Co-Investment activities, including refining investment strategy, optimizing team workflows, and developing core tools and marketing materials (e.g., underwriting templates, sector research libraries, and training guides). 
• Perform quick-turn analysis and deliver strategic input in response to ad-hoc requests from the Investment Committee, CEO, CIO, and key stakeholders.

Telework Information : This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with up to two days of remote work and three days or more onsite, per week.

Effective July 1, 2025, the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025). PLP 2025 directs that each employee shall receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours of PLP 2025 leave credits, monthly. The salary range(s) included in the job advertisement do not reflect the 3 percent reduction in pay.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

• Private Markets Expertise: 3–5 years of experience monitoring private asset investments (Private Equity, Real Estate, Hedge Funds, or Private Credit), including evaluating LPAs, amendments, quarterly/annual financials, and active participation in LP Advisory Committees (LPAC) and annual meetings. 
• Performance Analytics: Proven track record conducting private market attribution and performance analysis. 
• Leadership & Communication: Experience coaching, mentoring, or training team members, alongside a history of effectively managing relationships with external partners and stakeholders.
• Education & Credentials: Advanced degree (MBA or Master’s in Finance, Accounting, or a related field) or professional designation (CFA, CAIA, or CPA) preferred.
