Senior Counsel, Employment and Product

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Counsel, Employment and Product based in United States.

As Senior Counsel, Employment and Product, you will serve as a versatile legal advisor supporting both employment matters and product-commercial initiatives. You will partner closely with People, Product, Marketing, Business Development, Privacy, Data, Finance, and senior leadership teams. The role combines employment law expertise with practical guidance on contracts, consumer protection, privacy, compliance, and business operations. You will advise on employee relations, investigations, policies, employment agreements, and employment-related aspects of strategic transactions. On the product side, you will help teams move quickly while identifying and mitigating legal and regulatory risks. Accountabilities

• Advise People and Human Resources stakeholders on employment matters, including reasonable accommodations, compliance, performance management, terminations, recruiting, hiring, compensation, and benefits.
• Review, draft, and update employment policies, offer letters, employment agreements, separation agreements, handbooks, and other legal documents.
• Partner with HR Business Partners on employee relations matters and internal investigations, providing practical guidance and risk assessment.
• Manage employment law claims, arbitration matters, litigation, and discovery processes as needed.
• Conduct employment-related due diligence for mergers and acquisitions (M&A) transactions and support the integration of acquired teams.
• Monitor legal developments and proactively educate internal stakeholders on employment law changes and related risk mitigation.
• Advise Product, Marketing, and other business teams on legal considerations across product and commercial initiatives.
• Review, draft, and negotiate commercial agreements, vendor agreements, partnership terms, referral agreements, master service agreements, licensing agreements, and non-disclosure agreements.
• Provide practical and timely guidance on truth-in-advertising requirements, Unfair or Deceptive Acts or Practices (UDAP), Unfair, Deceptive, or Abusive Acts or Practices (UDAAP), and other consumer protection requirements.
• Support product compliance processes and help teams evaluate new product ideas, initiatives, and marketing copy.
• Advise internal stakeholders on privacy and data matters, including applicable requirements under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA).
• Respond to legal requests from Product, Business Development, Data and Privacy, Finance, Marketing, senior leadership, and other internal teams.
• Translate complex legal concepts into clear, concise, and actionable business guidance.
• Identify and implement improvements to legal processes, forms, workflows, and operations to make legal support more efficient and scalable.

Requirements

• 6+ years of relevant legal experience combining in-house and major law firm practice.
• At least 3 years of experience as Employment Counsel and 3+ years as Product Counsel or Corporate Counsel, or equivalent experience covering these areas.
• Deep knowledge of California and/or New York employment laws and applicable federal employment legislation.
• Active membership in at least one U.S. state bar, preferably California or New York.
• Strong experience advising on employment matters, employee relations, investigations, employment policies, and related legal risks.
• Experience supporting product and commercial legal matters, including contract drafting and negotiation.
• Knowledge of truth-in-advertising, UDAP, UDAAP, and other consumer protection laws.
• Strong understanding of privacy regulations, including CCPA, GDPR, and GLBA.
• Experience working with commercial agreements such as master service agreements, licensing agreements, vendor agreements, referral agreements, and non-disclosure agreements.
• Experience supporting M&A transactions, particularly employment due diligence and post-transaction integration, is valuable.
• Sound legal judgment, integrity, discretion, and the ability to handle confidential matters appropriately.
• Ability to assess legal risks quickly, prioritize competing demands, and provide practical guidance in time-sensitive situations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex legal concepts for stakeholders at all levels.
• Highly proactive and adaptable, with strong ownership and the ability to manage multiple projects while adjusting advice to changing priorities, legal developments, and risk tolerance.
• Ability to balance effective risk mitigation with a strong understanding of business needs and execution priorities.
• Experience with Ironclad, Blee, or LawVu is a plus.
• Experience in financial services regulatory areas such as insurance, mortgage, consumer lending, banking, or investing is a plus.
