The unit serves a high-acuity patient population with a primary focus on stroke patients (ischemic, hemorrhagic [SAH]), SDH, craniotomies, carotid stents, carotid endarterectomies, aneurysm coiling/clipping, seizures, depth electrodes, and myasthenia gravis. Drains used on the unit include EVDs, LDs, hemovacs, and Camino (ICP monitoring). The unit operates with a 2:1 nurse-to-patient ratio, which can flex up to 3:1 during high census, and candidates must be comfortable with this if needed.
