About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse - PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in acute care License: Active RN license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH Must-Have: - Experience with titratable drips: Cardene, Cardizem, Insulin, Heparin, Neo, Levophed - Chest tube management, tracheostomy care, Peritoneal Dialysis - Competency in EKG required before arrival Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit. The unit has 24 beds. Patient types include AFIB/RVR, DKA, HTN, COPD, ARF, and post Heart Catheterization. There may be overflow from the Stroke Unit requiring TPA administration. Candidates will manage spinal surgical patients, including ACDF and Laminectomy. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:3, with a CNA ratio of 1:7. Support on the unit includes a charge nurse who may have a patient assignment. Phlebotomy services are available in-house, along with IV/VAT Team from 7 AM to 3 PM. A resource nurse is available depending on staffing needs. Respiratory therapy is in-house, and Clientists are available. Centralized Tele Monitoring is provided within the unit. The charting system used is Meditech Expanse, with Alaris IV Pumps and Pyxis for medication dispensing. Travelers may rotate between units including Stroke and MedSurg, with ratios of 1:5-6 on MedSurg. Scheduling requires weekend rotation every other week. The schedule consists of a mandatory 5 on, 5 off, 2 on, 2 off rotation. Time off requests are limited to 7 days per contract and must extend one week for each full week requested off. Employees may only request one weekend of time off per 13-week contract. Holiday expectations include working 2 out of 3 holidays. Scrub colors are pewter, with t-shirt options in gray, white, or black. Badges must be worn above the waist and in full view at all times.
