Department: Scotland Memorial Hospital - Orthopedic Services Status: Full time Shift: 1st (United States of America) Schedule Details/Additional Information: Assists clinicians in providing safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. Performs clinical support functions within the scope of training, certification, licensure (if applicable), and demonstrated competency. Responsibilities may include orthopedic technical duties, patient preparation, obtaining vital signs, assisting with procedures, patient education, documentation, and coordination of care. Job Description Escort patients to the examination room within 15 minutes of their scheduled appointment time. Accurately obtain and document vital signs, including height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, and temperature, in the appropriate section of the patient's electronic medical record (EMR). Review and verify patient allergies in the EMR prior to provider evaluation, ensuring all information is current and accurately documented. Obtain and document a concise, accurate patient history, ensuring all pertinent information is entered into the patient's electronic medical record (EMR). Review the patient's chart thoroughly and communicate relevant clinical information to the provider, including laboratory results, point-of-care testing results, diagnostic imaging findings, and other significant updates that may impact patient care, treatment decisions, or workflow efficiency. Obtains laboratory specimens as ordered in previous office notes (where applicable) after a brief history is recorded and perform necessary testing prior to the PA/FNP/MD seeing the patient. Escort patients to the examination room as rooms become available and prepare them appropriately for evaluation by the PA, FNP, or MD. Ensure patients are properly positioned and, when applicable, instructed to change into appropriate attire for the examination, providing a clean gown as needed. Maintain patient dignity, comfort, and confidentiality by ensuring privacy is provided before, during, and after the examination in accordance with organizational standards and patient care best practices. Obtain laboratory specimens, perform venipuncture blood draws (if within scope of practice), and carry out clinical procedures as ordered by the PA, FNP, or MD. Accurately document all specimen collection activities, procedure details, and test results in the appropriate section of the patient's electronic medical record (EMR), ensuring complete and error-free documentation. Recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations by promptly identifying the urgency of the patient's condition and immediately notifying the PA, FNP, or MD. Pend referral orders and appointment requests in accordance with established standard work and provider workflow requirements. Verify that all supplies and medications are within expiration dates and adequately stocked. Promptly identify and report low inventory levels or expired medications, ensuring replacement medications are obtained through SMH Pharmacy in accordance with established procedures. Conduct weekly inventory reviews to ensure clinical supplies are adequately stocked and ready to support patient care operations. Maintain appropriate inventory levels, replenish supplies as needed, and rotate stock according to established inventory management practices to ensure older items are used first and all supplies remain within expiration guidelines. Accurately monitor inventory usage and communicate supply needs in a timely manner to prevent shortages and support efficient clinic workflow. Maintain examination rooms in a clean, organized, and fully stocked condition to support efficient patient care and clinic operations. Perform daily checks to ensure exam rooms are prepared and orderly prior to clinic opening and before each patient encounter. At the end of each day, inspect rooms for depleted supplies, restock as needed, and ensure all equipment and materials are in proper working order and readily available for the next clinic day. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory area by performing daily cleaning and disinfection. Assists in maintaining an effective patient survey process. Actively participates in performance improvement activities to enhance the quality of care and service. Performs CLIA waivered tests. Obtain authorizations for testing, procedures, performed outside of the healthcare system. Performs other duties as assigned. Age Specific Competency: Staff members will have knowledge of human growth and development through the life span of the patient and have the ability to meet the needs of and provide the care of these patients. The age categories to be included are: Neonatal/Infant 0 - 11 months; Pediatrics 1 – 12 yrs; Adolescence 13 - 17 yrs; Young Adult/Adult 18 – 64 yrs; Adult/Middle-Aged 65 - 79 yrs; Geriatric 80+ yrs. Ortho Tech Qualifications High School Diploma / GED required Casting experience and 2 years orthopedic experience preferred Orthopedic Tech Certification or equivalent certification CMA/RMA or EMT with experience in casting/splints CMA/RMA must be registered/certified through one of the following national organizations: American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Health Career Association (NHA), American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or American Medical Certification Association (AMCA) Careers At Scotland Health Care System, we’re proud to employ a team of dedicated professionals who embody the Scotland Way.
