Job Details Pay Rate: $21.50 | Full‑time | Schedule to be discussed at interview at the community Job Summary The cook prepares, cooks, seasons, and serves nutritious meals for residents, following menus and regulations. Comply with meal schedules. Follow standard recipes while making independent decisions based on experience. Apply proper food‑handling techniques and hazards awareness. Use correct seasoning and cooking times. Understand cooking characteristics of various meats, fish, and fowl. Estimate food quantities and apportion servings within portion‑controlled guidelines. Prepare foodstuffs (peel, wash, trim, cut vegetables and fruit; wash, cut, debone and trim meaty foods). Verify food quality (taste, smell, appearance) to ensure recipe compliance. Serve food per dietary guidelines and verify completeness. Cook: bake, roast, stew, steam‑cook meats, fish, fowl; make gravies, stocks, dressings, sauces, soups. Prepare cold meats, sandwiches, griddle cakes, cooked cereals, and beverages. Qualifications Education: High school diploma preferred; at minimum ability to read and write English. Experience: Prior experience in the dietary department of a health‑care facility preferred. Job Knowledge: Ability to prepare & cook varied foods in large quantities; knowledge of special diets, seasoning, cooking times, temperature controls; ability to estimate quantities, limit waste, use leftovers, and serve attractive meals.
