HEALTH RECORD TECHNICIAN II (SPECIALIST)

Health Record Technician II (Specialist) The Health Record Technician II (Specialist) works under the Health Record Technician III Supervisor in the Health Information Management Division at Department of State Hospitals – Atascadero. The role focuses on ensuring the accuracy, integrity and accessibility of the hospital's health records. Perform complex duties requiring independence and sound decision making. Use judgment to evaluate technical abstracting and coding problems. Attend and participate in appointments for patient access to medical records. Photocopy requested records. Conduct accurate, structured, concurrent, quantitative audits within the secured treatment area of the facility. Travel to/from and perform duties on all treatment units; perform on‑unit documentation review, chart maintenance, thinning, filing and maintain chart integrity. Analyze in‑house requests for patient information and formulate appropriate responses. Analyze medical records for deficiencies at discharge or transfer to court. Communicate incomplete record findings to responsible staff and take steps to complete the record. Assign ICD‑10 codes in accordance with ICD‑10‑CM guidelines. Abstract data from a variety of sources. Location: San Luis Obispo County, Department of State Hospitals – Atascadero (DSH‑Atascadero). Salary range: $5,071.00 – $5,707.00 per month.
