University of Washington Medical Center ROOSEVELT RADIOLOGY has an outstanding opportunity for a Per Diem Radiology Technologist - MRI. Position highlights include performing and analyzing comprehensive MRI examinations on patients referred for diagnosis; providing diagnostic observations to attending radiologists and determining additional examination techniques when abnormalities are present; monitoring patient vital sign and condition during examinations and performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) if necessary; reviewing patient medical history present on exam requests and consulting with physician as necessary; preparing patient for examination; counseling patient regarding safety factors and risks of examination; obtaining patient release to participate in research examinations; providing localization parameters for highly complex neurosurgical procedures; coordinating the administration of sedation to patients when necessary; under the direction of a physician; administering contrast media; maintaining adequate computer and/or written records using the Radiology Information System; providing instruction in the theory, techniques, applications, and analysis of diagnostic MRI procedures to physicians, post-doctoral fellows, residents, and student interns; updating continuing education, teaching, and research materials; assisting with the evaluation on new and prototype MRI coils and related physiological testing equipment; and reviewing and quality control own work and the work of others.

Competitive candidates must have knowledge of magnetic fields and patient safety requirements; exhibit clear and concise communications skills (verbal and written); and have the ability to exercise independent judgment to tailor examinations for acquisition of accurate anatomic and pathophysiologic data relative to patient's clinical presentation.

Primary job responsibilities include preparing patients for examinations, explaining the procedure and answering patient's questions; screening patients for any contraindication to MRI exam; reviewing patient medical history on exam request, consulting physician as necessary to ensure proper exam for each patient; prescribing proper scanning parameters for the most common MRI exams with the assistance of documented or computer prescribed protocols; determining optimal imaging options for most common MRI exams to minimize artifacts and decrease scan time; post processing if needed; calculating and administering appropriate contrast for exam; administering contrast under supervision of Radiologist; assuring that patients are properly scheduled in Radiology Information System (RIS), and exams are completed with proper billing; assuring that exam is filmed, archived and sent to PACS properly; monitoring equipment to ensure a diagnostic exam; troubleshooting and repairing basic system malfunctions; practicing equipment safety policies and procedures; restocking rooms of all supplies as needed; and performing related duties as required.

Required position qualifications include being certified by the State of Washington as a Radiologic Technologist and having satisfactory completion of formal technology training in an AMA approved school, registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
