FLX Solutions build a robotic system that makes inspection and maintenance faster, safer, and more repeatable, especially in tight, hard-to-reach spaces. Our flagship platform, the FLX BOT, is a modular, handheld, articulating robotic system that is used across defense and industrial environments.

Position Summary

We’re looking for a hands-on technician to assemble and test electro-mechanical hardware for the FLX BOT robotic system. You’ll build wiring harnesses, solder electronics, prep mechanical parts, apply structural adhesives, and run quality checks using clear work instructions and checklists. The FLX BOT is a lightweight, compact, and precise instrument. You’ll be working on small assemblies and using your soldering skills and dexterity to route cables, solder components, and create finalized assemblies. You’ll work closely with the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering teams to improve the design for assembly and provide feedback on the methods and processes.

What You'll Do

• Build electro-mechanical assemblies end-to-end
• Assemble, perform precision soldering, and rework as needed on PCBs and connectors (0402 and larger parts)
• Cut/strip/tin wires, route harnesses cleanly, and apply heat shrink + strain relief
• Drill/tap holes in printed and carbon fiber components; install heat-set inserts, switches, fuses, and fasteners
• Cut and drill carbon fiber parts using jigs while following PPE and dust-control practices
• Apply 2-part structural epoxies; use alignment jigs and manage cure cycles at controlled temperatures
• Test electronic assemblies with multimeter and bench power supply (continuity, voltage, boot behavior, current draw)
• Perform functional checks and final visual inspection (routing, fit/finish, shorts)

Required Skills

• Confident soldering on small electronics; comfortable with delicate components and tight tolerances
• Strong mechanical aptitude (drilling, tapping, deburring, test fitting parts)
• Comfortable using hand tools (wire strippers, cutters, taps, files, hex/torque drivers) and shop tools (drill press, bandsaw, miter saw, hot air rework)
• Self-starter with the ability to follow detailed build instructions and keep builds organized, clean, and consistent while documenting and tracking progress
• Safety-first mindset with chemicals, carbon fiber dust, and bright LEDs
• Comfortable working in a startup environment on a very small team with tight deadlines
• Google Workspace proficiency
• U.S. citizenship (due to DoD requirements)

Nice to Have

• Experience with robotics assemblies
• Experience using FDM 3D printers (We use a Bambulab P1S)
• Experience with PCB assembly and/or soldering under magnification
• SOLIDWORKS experience, especially reading drawings and designing simple 3D printed jigs
• Experience using PlatformIO or similar embedded software development platforms to flash code to microcontrollers

Physical and Working Requirements

• Work with small components under magnification when needed
• Handle epoxy, isopropyl alcohol, acetone, and UV resin safely with proper PPE
• Manual dexterity for routing small wiring (30-34 AWG) through tight housings and carbon fiber tubes

  Compensation: Will be determined based on candidate experience

  Flexibility: Flexible hours depending on current workload; ~20 hours per week with possibility to grow to full-time
