We are seeking a Clinical Registered Nurse in the Neonatal ICU to join our team and embrace our rich and historic tradition of excellence. This full‑time position consists of three 12‑hour shifts, rotating every other weekend, from 7:30 pm to 8:00 am. Responsibilities Collaborate with patients, families, and the health‑care team to determine health goals and interventions and to revise plans of care as needed. Maintain awareness of the unit’s periodic statistics regarding core measures, nursing quality indicators, and customer‑satisfaction measures and actively participate in activities that progressively improve the statistics. Provide nursing care consistent with the nursing practice standards, policies, and procedures established by the unit, department, division, and institution, professional ethics and standards, and legal requirements. Serve in the rotational role of charge nurse upon completion of the six‑month orientation period and with approval by the nurse manager. Participate in unit performance‑improvement programs through ongoing design, assessment, and measurement. Identify patient‑care requirements by establishing personal rapport with patients and others to understand care needs. Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families. Promote patient independence by establishing care goals; teach patients, friends, and families to understand their condition, medications, and self‑care skills; answer questions. Ensure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measure health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; recommend necessary adjustments; follow hospital and nursing division’s philosophies and standards of care set by the Nurse Practice Act of the District of Columbia and other governing agency regulations. Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection‑control policies and protocols, medication‑administration and storage procedures, and controlled‑substance regulations. Maintain nursing‑supplies inventory by checking stock levels, anticipating needed supplies, placing orders, verifying receipt, and using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results. Demonstrate competency in clinical skills, bedside manner, infection control, physiological knowledge, medication administration, medical teamwork, multi‑tasking, listening, verbal communication, and health promotion and maintenance. Qualifications Associate’s Degree in Nursing (required); Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred). Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the District of Columbia. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (required); PALS (preferred). NRP certification via the American Heart Association (required). At least 2 years of acute‑care/hospital experience as an RN in a NICU; Level III experience highly preferred. Compensation This position is covered under the DC Nurses Association (DCNA) collective bargaining agreement. Base pay range: $37.33–$62.43 /hr, commensurate with experience and qualifications per the DCNA wage scale. Effective July 1, 2026, the base range will increase to $37.89–$63.36 /hr per the updated collective bargaining agreement. Additional compensation may include a night‑shift differential for qualifying evening/night shifts and a weekend differential for qualifying weekend shifts.
