Certified Surgical Tech

As a Certified Surgical Technician, you will assist the surgeon with procedures, maintain sterile technique, be involved in infection control program, monitor and maintain equipment, supplies and instruments and help prepare patients for surgery. Must be team oriented and have proven experience working in a fast-paced environment. OR experience and BLS required.

Essential functions include preparing and maintaining medical equipment and instrumentation for surgical procedures, following state and federal facility regulations when attending to patients, performing pre-procedure preparations to the patient's skin and body, completing a safety check prior to start of the procedure on appropriate equipment, supplies, etc., assembling both sterile and non-sterile equipment, as well as checking to ensure it is working properly, assisting with prep for patient procedure, transporting patients to the procedure room, assisting with positioning on the procedure table, draping the patient with surgical drapes per procedure to be performed, passing instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgeon assistants, retracting, cutting sutures and performing other functions under the supervision of the physician performing the procedure, participating in the count of sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments, based on type of procedure performed, helping prepare specimens and assisting with the disposition of specimens, applying dressings, post-procedure, assisting with patient transfer from the procedure bed to the stretcher, cleaning and restocking the procedure room, pulling supplies and instruments for upcoming procedures, assisting with the maintenance of physician preference cards and inventory management, assisting with the decontamination and cleaning, sterilization and performance of quality testing related to sterilization and high level disinfection, and performing other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, skills and abilities include demonstrating the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients in the center, utilizing recognized channels of communication, maintaining good interpersonal relationships with patients, co-workers, and other health team members.

Physical/mental demands include working in clean, well-lighted, well-ventilated environments, standing for long periods and remaining alert during operations, and being exposed to communicable diseases and unpleasant sights, odors, and materials at times.

Education/experience/requirements include a graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program, CST certification, or based on state regulations, they may be grandfathered in, without being certified, prefer 1-2 years clinical experience in an operating room setting, and must be certified in Basic Life Support.
