Compensation: Unpaid, academic credit and complimentary All Access Pass to the 24th Annual IOFF taking place in San Francisco, on April 16-18,2027

About the Festival

The International Ocean Film Foundation (IOFF) is the premier global platform for ocean literacy and education through film. We believe that powerful stories can deepen our connection to the ocean, inspire curiosity and spark action.

Each year, IOFF presents the world's largest ocean film festival, attracting more than 3,000 audience members while showcasing an acclaimed collection of films from around the globe—many of which are rarely available to public audiences. From marine science and exploration to adventure, culture, and the pressing challenges facing our blue planet, every film is carefully selected for its ability to inform, inspire and move audiences.

Through the power of storytelling, IOFF elevates diverse voices and perspectives that celebrate the ocean while fostering greater understanding of its environmental, social, and cultural importance. By bringing these stories to communities around the world, we inspire the next generation of ocean stewards and help create a future where healthy oceans benefit us all.

Position Summary

The Marketing Intern will support the festival's outreach and promotional efforts, helping to build audience engagement, increase event attendance, and strengthen the festival's online presence. This is an excellent opportunity for a student or emerging marketing professional interested in nonprofit marketing, film, environmental advocacy, and digital communications.

Responsibilities

• • Draft marketing copy for newsletters, website updates, blogs, and promotional materials.
  • Assist in developing and executing marketing campaigns across digital and traditional channels.
  • Assist with maintaining the festival website and ensure event information is current.
  • Research and identify community organizations, schools, businesses, and media outlets for outreach and partnership opportunities.
  • Assist with email marketing campaigns and audience engagement initiatives.
  • Provide day-of support at promotional events, screenings, and festival activities, when scheduling allows.
  • Track marketing analytics and prepare basic performance reports.
  • Help distribute promotional materials and coordinate volunteer street-team efforts.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team, staff, filmmakers, sponsors, and community partners.

Qualifications

• • Current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate, in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Film, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms and content creation.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
  • Interest in ocean conservation, environmental issues, sustainability, documentary film, or the arts.
  • Experience with Canva, GoogleWorkspace, Adobe Creative Suite, Mailchimp, and/or social media management tools is a plus.
