Lead Technician - Blood Component Manufacturing

This role is a Lead Tech in Blood Components Manufacturing, responsible for manufacturing and processing blood products after units have been received from donors. What You Need To Know As a Lead Tech in Blood Components Manufacturing, you are responsible for manufacturing and processing blood products after the units have been received from the donors. This includes scanning in units, processing units into transfusable components (red cells, platelets, and plasma) and leukoreducing red blood cells. As a Red Cross Team member, you will take care of your team members, interact with internal and external customers in a positive and proactive manner, and demonstrate care and compassion at all times. Key Responsibilities Meet quality and production goals while prioritizing workload and maintaining accurate documentation. Perform inventory management throughout manufacturing and distribution processes. Perform data entry and operate computer programs related to component production, labeling, storage, and sample tube management. Analyze information from other departments to meet production timelines. Perform complex manufacturing tasks such as pooled product manufacturing, freezing, washing, or deglycerolizing of blood products, and pathogen reduction. Communicate effectively with internal customers, vendors, and volunteers. May require flexibility to work a variable schedule that includes weekends and holidays. Assume operational supervisory responsibilities and participate in staff training when needed. The aforementioned responsibilities describe the general nature and level of work and are not exhaustive. Schedule and Pay Standard Schedule: This is a second shift position working 4pm–12am, Monday through Friday, with weekends as needed. Pay: $22.00 per hour with a second shift differential of $2.25 per hour. What You Need To Succeed High School or equivalent required. Minimum 4 years of related experience in a regulatory, laboratory, or manufacturing environment or an equivalent combination of education and related experience. Good computer skills, ability to use a wide variety of programs and laboratory equipment, attention to detail, accurate documentation, and good decision-making skills. Good communication skills, ability to work on a team and independently with minimal supervision. Competitive Edge Associate’s degree in an applied science preferred (or equivalent experience and education). Physical Requirements Frequently lift and move objects 10–50 lbs unassisted. Push carts up to 100 pounds on flat flooring or ramps. Able to withstand temperatures in a blood banking environment. May require climbing step ladders.
