Director Accounting & Finance / Controller

Headfarmer is partnering with a rapidly growing, private equity-backed multi-location consumer retail company that is seeking a hands-on Director of Accounting & Finance to build, lead, and elevate the finance function during an exciting growth phase.


This is a unique opportunity for an accounting and finance leader who enjoys rolling up their sleeves while partnering closely with executive leadership on strategic initiatives. The organization is scaling aggressively, expanding into new markets, and investing heavily in systems, processes, and infrastructure to support future growth.



What You'll Do
As the senior finance leader, you'll take ownership of the accounting function while helping shape the company's financial future.



Key Responsibilities

• Lead all accounting operations, including month-end close, financial reporting, general ledger, cash management, and reconciliations
• Develop and strengthen internal controls, policies, and financial processes across multiple locations
• Deliver accurate and timely financial statements, variance analysis, and executive reporting packages
• Partner with the CEO and leadership team to provide financial insights that drive business decisions
• Build and maintain cash flow forecasting and liquidity planning tools
• Oversee annual audits, tax coordination, banking relationships, and lender reporting
• Drive budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives
• Create meaningful operational and financial KPIs for leadership and field teams
• Evaluate and implement process improvements, automation opportunities, and future ERP solutions
• Lead and mentor a small accounting team while helping design the future finance organization
• Spend time in the business learning operations firsthand and partnering with store leadership teams

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
• Strong foundation in accounting operations and financial reporting
• Experience owning the month-end close process and financial statements
• Ability to translate financial data into actionable business recommendations
• Proven success improving processes, systems, and controls
• Experience partnering directly with senior leadership
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA designation
• Multi-location business experience
• Retail, consumer products, hospitality, franchise, or other distributed operations experience
• Budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning experience
• ERP implementation or major systems migration experience
• Experience in high-growth, entrepreneurial, or PE-backed environments
