As a behind the chair salon manager, you may work up to 8 - 16 hours per week behind the chair (depending on salon volume) with your own clientele, alongside your team. Additionally, leaders coach and motivate your team to becoming the top salon professionals in America; while supporting the business to drive retail and service results through creative marketing, networking, and promoting client loyalty. Primary Responsibilities: • Client Experience o Leads by example in all interactions with clients, and supports stylists to ensure they can provide an exceptional client experience o Creates an environment that inspires associates to build client loyalty by providing coaching and feedback to ensure consistent execution of the o Motivates and engages the team to provide exceptional service through consistent communication, coaching and recognition o Provides services including but not limited to cut/style, chemical services for all hair types, and performs other hair styling services as required to meet or exceed the client's expectations in a positive, professional manner • Team Development o Proactively recruits qualified stylists to join team through the use of Social Media, targeted Recruiting Websites, Referrals and engaging Stylists at local Salons and Cosmetology Schools o Provides coaching and feedback that is frequent, balanced, meaningful and improves effectiveness o Creates opportunities for learning that drive associate success throughout their career o Ensures stylists complete available training by scheduling Associates for Core and Artistic Education as courses are offered internally o Inspires loyalty, passion, and growth in the salon by creating an environment that is inclusive, respectful, professional and fun • Business Performance o Reviews reports to quickly identify and prioritize areas of opportunity in the salon, determines root cause of the opportunity, and sets direction to achieve productivity - referral - rebooking - return rate and client acquisition standards o Delivers Salary Cost objectives to achieve profit plan • Merchandising o Reviews SET guidance and makes appropriate adjustments based on salon layout while maintaining core standards in Salon o Actively walks the salon and backbar to identify opportunities related to merchandising, replenishment, and recovery o Handles or directs salon team to address product related issues that have biggest impact to the client o Manages backbar expenses to plan • Performance Standards / Programs o Consistently meets established performance standards for the role, including (but not limited to) product and service sales, client experience, productivity, and attendance o Reviews and follows all company programs (including but not limited to) hiring practices and state safety regulations, and accurately advises salon associates on how to address any related issues • Cosmetology License o A current cosmetology license is required in the state you are applying. What you get: In addition to a competitive wage, this position offers 50% commission on service sales behind the chair and 10% commission on retail sold with a service. Eligible for bonus under the Management Incentive Plan. All associates are eligible for an associate discount on JCPenney merchandise. For paid holidays, associates who are eligible for paid vacation (MTO) are also eligible for eight paid holidays during the calendar year.
