Guided by our core values of innovation, compassion, trust, and expertise, we are growing and looking for a detail-oriented and organized Payroll Specialist to join our team in person.The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for processing employee payroll accurately and on time, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of payroll procedures, excellent communication skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality in all payroll-related matters.What You'll DoPreparing and processing of bi-weekly payroll timely and accurately for hourly and salary employeesReviews all time & attendance entries to ensure that all hours have been properly and correctly recorded and that overtime and payroll exceptions if applicable, have been approvedEnsure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local tax laws, including deductions for benefits, taxes, and garnishmentsProcess new hires, terminations, and other employment status changes in the payroll systemPrepares final checks for voluntary and involuntary terminationsMaintain and update employee payroll records, including deductions, benefits, and tax elections.Assist employees with payroll inquiries and resolve any issues or discrepancies promptlyManage W-2 process with 3rd party payroll companyWork with HR and Finance teams to ensure accurate record-keeping and reporting.Data entry and processing of mileage and commuting stipend calculations for expense reimbursementReconcile payroll-related accounts and prepare reports for management as needed.Responds to Verification of Employment and EDD RequestsStay up-to-date with payroll legislation changes and apply them accordingly.Complete other duties as assignedWhat You'll NeedHigh School Diploma, equivalent or two-year degree plus 2 – 4 years of payroll or equivalent combinations of training and experienceExperience with Workday is highly preferredDOJ/FBI Live Scan Background & TB ClearanceIn-depth knowledge and experience of payroll calculations/processing, payroll taxes and accounting principles to include applicable journal entriesExperience with working with a 3rd party payroll providerStrong mathematical skillsAbility to abide by ethical guidelines and policies, including strict adherence to confidentiality.Working knowledge of standard business practices and procedures, including basic HR practicesKnowledge of Local, State and Federal employment laws and Human Resource policies and proceduresSuperior customer service skills, strong analytical skills, excellent organizational skills, and a keen attention to detailComputer-literate; knowledge of standard company software applications, internetEffective interpersonal skillsExcellent organizational skills with ability to manage multiple tasksAbility to problem-solveProficient written and verbal English language communication skills, including business writing and professional telephone mannerProficient use of word-processing software and other computer applicationsReliability, dependability and flexibilityWork Environment and Physical Demands:Occasional exposure to dust and fumesRequires frequent reaching, handling, sitting, standing, walking, hearing, and talkingRequires up to 4 hours of sitting without breaks and up to 10 hours per dayRequires up to 4 hours of computer screen viewing without breaks and up to 10 hours per dayRequires use of keyboard and calculators daily and for prolonged periods of timeOccasional stooping/bending/crouching, carrying and lifting 20 or more lbs.The noise intensity level is moderateWhy Join Us?Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance options.401(k) retirement plan.PTO and sick time.Paid holidays.Supportive, collaborative, and mission-driven work environment with opportunities for professional growth.Join the team that thrives on caring for students and playing an important role in their ongoing success.PQI is an Equal Opportunity Employer and considers all qualified applicants regardless of race, gender, color, religion, national origin, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, veteran status or other classification protected by law.
