Payroll Specialist

Our client, a manufacturing company based in Rochester, is seeking a Payroll Specialist to support their finance team on a temporary basis. This role covers a period of increased payroll volume tied to seasonal production staffing and requires someone comfortable managing end-to-end payroll cycles independently.

The Payroll Specialist will process payroll for hourly and salaried employees across multiple states, reconcile payroll data, and respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, and tax withholdings. This position works closely with HR and accounting to ensure accurate and timely payroll delivery each cycle.

This is an on-site, temporary assignment expected to run several months, with the possibility of extension based on business needs.

Responsibilities

• Process biweekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees
• Verify timekeeping records and resolve discrepancies with supervisors
• Calculate and process deductions, garnishments, and benefit contributions
• Reconcile payroll registers against general ledger entries
• Respond to employee questions regarding pay, deductions, and tax forms
• Prepare payroll reports for finance and HR leadership
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
• Support year-end payroll processes including W-2 preparation

Requirements

• Associate degree in accounting, business, or related field preferred
• Minimum 2 years of payroll processing experience
• Experience with multi-state payroll processing
• Proficiency with payroll software such as ADP or Paychex
• Strong understanding of payroll tax regulations
• High attention to detail and data accuracy
• Ability to handle confidential information professionally
• Strong organizational and time management skills
