Patient Registration Representative ILocation: Downey, CA 90241 Duration: 16 weeks Shift: Day Shift – 5x8 hours (08:30 AM – 5:00 PM)Position SummaryThe Patient Registration Representative I facilitates patient access to care by performing registration and pre-registration activities for outpatient and inpatient services. This role ensures accurate data collection, verifies insurance, calculates patient financial responsibility, and delivers excellent customer service in a fast-paced healthcare environment.Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Registration & AdministrationPerform accurate and timely patient registrations and pre-registrationsCollect and verify demographic, insurance, and eligibility informationCalculate and collect patient financial responsibility (copays, deductibles, coinsurance)Ensure all required documentation, signatures, and forms are completed and scannedAvoid duplicate medical records and maintain data integrityCustomer Service & CommunicationProvide a welcoming, professional, and patient-centered experienceCommunicate clearly with patients, physicians, insurance providers, and staffExplain processes, financial obligations, and hospital programs effectivelyHandle phone inquiries promptly and professionallyCompliance & ConfidentialityMaintain strict adherence to HIPAA and regulatory requirementsEnsure accuracy and completeness in all registration processes (minimum 95% accuracy standard)Follow hospital policies, consent laws, and safety proceduresProductivity & PerformanceComplete 20–30+ registrations per 8-hour shift (varies by department)Ensure timely registration (within 15–30 minutes depending on department)Perform insurance verification, document scanning, and payment collection efficientlyFinancial ResponsibilitiesRequest and collect payments in accordance with hospital policiesEducate patients on financial responsibility and payment optionsAssist with eligibility screening for programs such as Hospital Presumptive Eligibility (HPE) and uncompensated careTeamwork & FlexibilityCollaborate effectively with internal teams and external vendorsAdapt to different departments and changing workload demandsSupport departmental goals and maintain a positive work environmentRequired Skills & QualificationsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsStrong attention to detail and organizational skillsAbility to multitask in a fast-paced environmentProficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and computer systemsTyping speed of 45+ WPMStrong analytical and problem-solving abilitiesCustomer service experience in a healthcare settingKnowledge of insurance and billing processes (required)Understanding of medical terminology (preferred)Education & ExperienceHigh School Diploma or equivalent (required)Minimum 1 year experience in a healthcare or medical office setting (required)Experience with insurance verification and billing (required)Medical terminology knowledge (preferred)Valid driver's license and ability to travel to off-site locations (if required)Bilingual (Spanish or Mandarin) preferredPerformance ExpectationsMaintain high accuracy in all registrations and documentationMeet productivity benchmarks consistentlyDemonstrate professionalism, punctuality, and reliabilityUphold patient confidentiality and ethical standardsParticipate in continuous learning and improvement initiativesKey CompetenciesCustomer-focused mindsetStrong work ethic and time managementAdaptability and flexibilityAttention to detailTeam collaborationProfessional demeanor and communicationAdditional RequirementsAvailability for training (9:00 AM – 5:00 PM for the first 2 weeks)
