We’re seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Earthwork Superintendent to lead field operations for a dike-raising project at the Jones Oyster Bed Island Dredged Material Containment Area in Jasper County, SC. In this hands-on field leadership role, you’ll direct earthmoving crews and equipment across a remote marsh island site with soft, saturated, and tidally influenced ground conditions.

This is not an office-based project management position. You will work directly in the field, managing daily excavation, hauling, grading, and material placement operations.

Responsibilities:

• Direct excavator, dozer, and dump truck crews completing borrow excavation, material hauling, lift placement, grading, and slope shaping.
• Plan daily earthwork activities to meet production goals, cut/fill requirements, and project specifications.
• Coordinate with survey and QA/QC teams to verify lift thickness, compaction, elevation, crest width, and slope.
• Monitor haul roads and equipment routes across soft marsh ground, directing maintenance and repairs as needed.
• Manage equipment assignments, operator performance, production rates, and field logistics.
• Enforce safety procedures related to heavy equipment traffic, spotters, tidal conditions, and marine hazards.
• Track daily quantities, delays, equipment issues, and project progress.
• Coordinate barge, boat, equipment, and material deliveries to maintain production.

Requirements:

• Minimum 5 years of field experience as an Earthwork Superintendent, Grading Superintendent, or Dirt Work Superintendent.
• Direct supervisory experience with excavator, dozer, and dump truck crews on heavy civil projects.
• Experience with dike or levee construction, dredging support, DMCA/DMPA projects, or comparable earthwork strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of borrow excavation, lift construction, compaction, crest widening, slope shaping, and drainage.
• Ability to read grading plans, cross-sections, survey controls, and construction drawings.
• Experience managing soft-ground, wet-weather, or tidally influenced working conditions.
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a TWIC card and pass required drug and alcohol screenings.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel or relocate near the project for the duration of the assignment.
• Comfortable working on a remote island accessed by boat or barge.
