Job Title RN Supervisor (T&RC) Clinician CICU – Full Time Days Position Summary At Stony Brook Medicine, Registered Nurses are critical members of the team who diagnose and treat actual or potential health problems using nursing methods such as case finding, health teaching, and counseling. The RN Supervisor (Clinician) serves as a nurse leader of a unit on a given shift, may provide individualized direct patient care, and supervises Registered Nurses and ancillary personnel while reporting directly to the Nurse Manager. Responsibilities Assumes Charge RN role on unit; provides first‑level supervision to nursing staff and offers performance feedback, initiating disciplinary action if warranted. Assumes responsibility and accountability for the delivery of nursing care to all assigned patients. Develops the initial nursing assessment and interdisciplinary plan of care within eight hours of admission, revising it at least every 24 hours as patient condition changes. Prepares daily patient care assignments based on individual patient needs and staff capabilities. Administers medications and treatments according to physician orders. Documents patient/family teaching and responses, ensuring consistency with physician or designee instructions. Acts as preceptor for new nursing personnel and students, documenting achieved competencies. Provides direct patient care as a role model, teacher, or resource person, displaying advanced knowledge and skill in the specialty area. Monitors the quality of nursing care and documentation through interaction with staff and patients. Completes yearly evaluations and competencies of nursing personnel in collaboration with the nurse manager. Working Conditions The position may involve exposure to infectious diseases, blood, body fluids, injuries, and other hazardous or unpleasant elements. It requires handling unpredictable, emergency, and crisis situations, irregular hours, and pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries. The role is classified by OSHA as Category 1. Schedule Full‑time, Day Shift Hours: 0700‑1930 Pass Days: Every Other Weekend, Variable Qualifications Experience: At least two (2) years post‑licensure acute care nursing experience. Two (2) years in area of specialization preferred. Education: Graduation from a National League of Nursing Accredited School of Nursing; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Certifications: BCLS certification required; unit‑specific specialty certification preferred. License: Current license to practice as a registered nurse in New York State. As part of the onboarding process, submit a copy of your current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. If it is set to expire within 90 days of your start date, you will be scheduled for a BLS training session during orientation. Physical Demands Prolonged standing/walking, lifting, positioning, pushing and/or transferring of patients. Lifting supplies/equipment. Reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching. Pre‑Employment Requirements Complete a pre‑employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance. Complete an electronic reference check with at least three (3) professional references. Provide results of a four‑panel drug screen. Meet regulatory requirements for pre‑employment screenings. Submit any required New York State license(s) or certificate(s).
