Specimen Technician

Job OverviewPay Range: $15.76hr - $20.76hrRequirement/Must Have:High School diploma or equivalent.Basic understanding of computers.Ability to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.Ability to learn and understand specimen types related to ordered tests.Ability to learn and understand compliance regulations related to test ordering.Availability to work weekends, holidays, on call, and overtime as required.Strong interpersonal skills to foster a positive environment.Ability to adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility.Responsibilities:Perform general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department including A-station and presort.Handle pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory.Perform imaging, microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting of specimens.Ensure all functions are performed with confidence, accuracy, and in a timely manner.Practice good safety habits while working in a biohazard environment.Maintain a neat and clean work area.Adhere to core values, safety, and compliance policies and procedures.Communicate effectively with all levels of staff.Nice To Have:Knowledge of laboratory testing and/or laboratory specimen processing.Medical background including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.Previous hospital laboratory experience.Previous experience in a production environment.Skills:Data Entry.Specimen Processing.Centrifugation.Aliquoting.Medical Terminology.Laboratory Safety.Alphanumeric Typing.Qualification And Education:High School Diploma or GED.Physical Requirements(Due to nature of job, The candidate must have):Ability to sit for long periods.Ability to stand for long periods.
