Job Summary The Emergency Department Technician is a member of the emergency department patient care services team with primary responsibilities for technical, multi‑skilled direct and indirect patient care activities. The ED Tech works under the supervision of a registered nurse who delegates tasks based on patient needs and the ED Tech’s skills and scope of practice. Collaborates and cooperates with care team members to ensure consistency and quality of care and promotes productive employee relations among staff members. Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to continuous improvement, teamwork, and the mission, vision, and values of the DMC. Assists the registered nurse by gathering data on patient conditions, direct patient observation, and reporting changes in patient medical and/or emotional condition. Documents interventions and patient responses according to policy and assists nursing personnel in responding to emergency patient situations. Assists in the training/orientation of other technicians and care team members as directed. Follows all departmental policies, procedures and objectives, including continuous improvement initiatives, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Demonstrates sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy, answers questions from patients and families, explains procedures and processes within the scope of training and maintains confidentiality. Performs general clerical duties such as answering telephones and call lights, greeting patients and visitors as required by unit needs. Enhances personal growth through participation in workshops, educational programs, in‑service meetings and reviewing current literature. Shares joint accountability for maintaining competencies. Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Graduation from a school of practical nursing. Completion of one of the following: A Certified PCA/PCT Program. A Certified Nurse Assistant Program or equivalent training. A Medical Assistant Program. An EMT Program. A phlebotomy training program. Facility Description Preferred to have six (6) months direct patient care experience.
