Managing Director

Available Light Theatre (AVLT) seeks a Managing Director to oversee operations, financial management, and strategic execution in collaboration with the Artistic Director and Board of Directors. This contract position reports directly to the Board of Directors. The Managing Director plays a critical role in supporting the art of AVLT by ensuring the successful and efficient day-to-day operations of an ensemble-led company that seeks to create joyful, profound theatre. The rate of pay for this contract position is $32,000 annual salary , with an expected workload of an average of 20 hours per week . The expected start date for this position is May, 2027. About Available Light Theatre Celebrating its 20th season, Available Light Theatre is a professional 501(c)(3) non-profit, non-Equity ensemble theatre company in downtown Columbus, Ohio. Mixing original and contemporary works, AVLT usually produces a season of 3-4 shows, typically running from September to June. Available Light is proud to offer a Pay What You Want ticket program, broadening the depth and reach of its ability to bring joyful and profound theatre to its local community and beyond. Collaborative Leadership Ability to work closely and communicate proactively with artistic, administrative, and board leadership. Strategic Execution Experience in building and executing a roadmap for the strategic vision of the company. Financial Management Expertise in budgeting, fundraising, and nonprofit fiscal stewardship. Arts Administration Understanding of theatre operations, production logistics, and contract negotiation. Community Engagement Ability to communicate AVLT's mission and build relationships with donors, audiences, and artists. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Operations Oversee AVLT's day-to-day administrative operations, ensuring efficiency and alignment with the company's mission. Partner with the Artistic Director to support strategic planning and organizational vision. Work closely with the Board of Directors to provide governance support and facilitate informed decision-making. Supervise and collaborate with staff, contractors, volunteers, and company members to uphold the positive and responsive working environment of AVLT. Work with Production Manager, Artistic Director, Box Office Manager, and Director to support execution of production needs. Develop and monitor AVLT's annual budget in collaboration with the Board. Familiarity with Quickbooks is preferred. Oversee payroll, contracts, and financial transactions as prepared by an accountant or payroll service to ensure compliance with tax laws. 3. Manage the timely development and submission of grant applications, including submission of grant reports as necessary. 4. Secure necessary insurance. Community Engagement & Communications Represent AVLT alongside the Artistic Director, strengthening connections with stakeholders, donors, and the community. Manage administrative tasks needed to secure show sponsors to support productions. Support donor relations and fundraising efforts to ensure AVLT's continued success.
