Financial Counselor (Medical Office)

We are seeking a detailed-orientated, strong team player and highly organized candidate to join our group as a Financial Counselor working closely with our surgery scheduling department. The Financial Counselor supports patients by explaining insurance benefits, estimating out-of-pocket costs, and arranging payment options. This role acts as a bridge between patients, providers, and billing staff to ensure patients understand their financial responsibility and feel supported throughout their care. Key Responsibilities Contacts patients to review insurance coverage, benefits, and eligibility, providing a clear explanation of patient’s out-of-pocket expenses Verify insurance information and confirm appropriatereferrals/authorizationsare in place Provide accurate cost estimates for procedures, treatments, and services Explain payment policies, billing processes, and financial responsibility in a clear, compassionate manner Collect treatment deposits and set up payment arrangements according to office policy Document all patient interactions accurately in the practice management system Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and regulatory requirements Stay up to date on insurance guidelines, payer rules, and healthcare regulations Any other job duties assigned Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree preferred) 1–3 years of experience in a medical office, healthcare billing, insurance verification, or financial counseling role Strong understanding of insurance plans in the state of Florida Excellent communication and customer service skills Ability to explain complex financial information in an empathetic, patient-friendlyway Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Proficiency with EHR and practice management systems Empathy and professionalism when working with patients Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Time management and multitasking abilities 401k Short-term/Long-term Disability Insurance Life Insurance Paid time off Uniform Reimbursement Work Environment & Physical Requirements: Medical office or clinic setting Frequent interaction with patients, families, and insurance companies Sitting, standing, and computer work for extended periods Some travel may be required for training purposes Job Type: Full-time Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and/or 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., hour lunch #J-18808-Ljbffr North Florida Surgeons, P.A.
