College and Career Coach

Art Division’s College and Career Coach is responsible for working under the supervision of the Artistic Director/Managing Director in supporting our students. This position requires an understanding of college access pathways, transfer requirements from California Community Colleges to various 4-year institutions, and knowledge of Federal and CA grants and the financial aid process. Career advising includes forging academic and professional pipelines to higher education opportunities, jobs, training and internships for students. It also requires sensitivity to the needs of under-served, low-income and undocumented students. Additionally, it requires an ability to connect with artistic students, build trust, and maintain communication. The position also includes building and supporting student activities such as social gatherings and field trip organization. Administrative duties include student, alumni, and scholarship tracking, administration of evaluations, and data entry.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Available to meet one-on-one (in person) with students to discuss and review their academic profile and create a college or career plan.

Create and foster an empowering and motivational environment for students.

Help identify career (internships/jobs) and pipeline programs for students. (maintain/create online job board)

Guide students through college and university transfers

Stay up to date on admission and college access trends

Identify and scholarships or appropriate internships for students and assist with applications

Flexibility and availability to work some late evenings and /or weekends.

Implement applications for Art Division scholarships as well as track progress and awards

In collaboration with Financial Director, ensure that all awarded financial needs are met

Meet monthly with scholarship students, and track their progress

Assist students with college applications, transfers and financial aid

Hold specialized workshops to assist students with career and educational skills (such as creating a resume, etc)

Build a community of students through organizing social events/mixers on a monthly basis.

Administrative duties

Once or twice/academic year

Evaluations: Distribute and gather paper evaluations, then enter resulting data into a spreadsheet each semester (twice/year)

Support student enrollment: Conduct student interviews, and attend student orientations (1 x year)

Assist Programming Director with student registration, class lists (including waiting lists), and workshop implementation.

Reach out to local community colleges for possible recruitment possibilities

Year-end mailing

Ongoing

Alumni tracking: Document student accomplishments, this includes communication with former and current students on how they’re progressing in and outside of Art Division

Requirements you:

Highly organized and collaborative individual

Have good rapport with young people

Experience:

Bachelors Degree, or AA

Experience in college and career counseling

Minimum of 2 years administrative experience

Bilingual (Spanish/preferred but not required)
