South Seattle College is looking to hire a College & Career Pathways Navigator in our Transitional Studies & Justice Involved Solutions department.


The salary range for this position is $60,391.00 - $83,397.00. Please note that initial salary placement for this position is typically between $65,000- $76,000 annually.

Overview

Reporting to the Director of Transitional Studies and Justice Involved Solutions, the College & Career Pathways Navigator provides guidance, enrollment support, and advocacy for Transitional Studies students, including English language learners (ELL), HS+, GED, and College Prep students. The Navigator supports English language learners and other adult learners as they progress through their Transitional Studies programs and transition successfully into their chosen college programs of study.


In collaboration with staff and faculty across campus programs, as well as community partners, the Navigator assists with recruitment and outreach efforts by presenting college and career pathway opportunities to students enrolled in Transitional Studies programs at South Seattle College. The Navigator also meets individually with students to provide coaching, navigation, and enrollment support, helping them explore academic and career options and successfully enroll in their program of study upon completion of their Transitional Studies program.


This position is grant funded for the 2026-2027 academic year through June 20, 2027. Continuation of this position is contingent upon continued grant funding.

Seattle Colleges is unable to extend post-completion optional practical training (OPT) to F-1 students who receive STEM degrees.


This position will work on a hybrid schedule with the option to work one day remote.


Essential Functions of the Position
  • Assist students in Transitional Studies programs with exploring and understanding college and career pathway options, clarifying, and setting goals in 1:1 and group settings
  • Provide navigational support to students who are prepared to enroll in their college program of study throughout the enrollment process including admissions, placement, funding, advising, and registration
  • Assist students with applying for admission to career or transfer pathway programs at the college
  • Assist students with exploring funding options, completing FAFSA/WASFA applications and other funding applications (grants, scholarships) in partnership with Financial Aid and Workforce Education staff
  • Assist students with understanding and completing course registration and orientation in partnership with academic advising
  • Connect students with appropriate services and resources across the college
  • Facilitate outreach and recruitment opportunities for students in Transitional Studies programs (ELL, HS+, GED, College Prep, etc.) in collaboration with faculty, staff, and external partners including presentations to classes or small groups, or 1:1 interactions
  • Understand the needs of English language learners and other adult learners, as well as the systems in which we operate, in order to advocate for student success, reduce barriers, and support a seamless transition into their program of study
  • Promote I-BEST opportunities to students by understanding program structure, eligibility requirements, and benefits
  • Conduct intake and assessment for potential I-BEST students, advising prospective students regarding program of study options
  • Ensure students meet I-BEST eligibility, which includes understanding and interpreting course placement assessments
  • Participate in recruitment and outreach opportunities for I-BEST, both internally and externally
  • Collaborate with I-BEST faculty to ensure the academic success of I-BEST eligible students by providing non-academic support and referrals to appropriate resources
  • Document student interactions in the college's student success system and maintain confidentiality of student records and adhere to FERPA guidelines
  • Support students enrolled in bridge/on-ramp courses by helping students complete enrollment steps such as admissions, funding, advising, and registration in 1:1 and classroom/group settings
  • Track, analyze, and report data related to the enrollment and success of I-BEST eligible students and students enrolled in bridge/on-ramp courses
  • Stay well-informed of college policies and processes related to enrollment steps and requirements, academic programs, advising, funding, and other educational services and programs
  • Create/Maintain marketing materials (flyer/brochures, website, etc.) to promote I-BEST programs
  • Support Transitional Studies onboarding/enrollment activities and events including CASAS test proctoring during orientation sessions
What you bring as a candidate:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, student development, counseling, social work, or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum two years of experience in a role providing direct service to students/clients such as academic advising, coaching, case management, social work, or related role.
  • Demonstrated experience working with people from diverse backgrounds such as English language learners, newer immigrants, refugees, and adult learners.
  • Demonstrated experience providing exceptional customer service.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and facilitating presentations.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills to effectively and collaboratively work with staff, faculty, and external partners.
  • Demonstrated organizational, time management, and project management skills with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft 365 including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Demonstrated proficiency or ability to learn how to utilize student information systems such as ctcLink (Peoplesoft).
  • Fluency in one of the most commonly spoken languages within the college's service area in addition to English such as Spanish, Vietnamese, Somali, Amharic, or Dari is preferred.
